Introduction Schizophrenia is a chronic progredient (malignant) mental illness with undefined etiology that leads to a change in the patient's personality. The word "schizophrenia" comes from the Greek words "schizo" – fission, split and "fran" - soul that indicates the splitting of mind, disharmony of thinking, emotions and will. The term was first introduced by Paul Eugen Bleuler, so the disease is sometimes called Bleuler’s disease.
