As a representative of my department, it would be my initial duty to oversee those who could possibly lose access to healthcare, or not seek it when concerning the repeal of ACA. With the increase of potential debt, aggressive collection tactics, and full exposure to all health costs, individuals with serious illnesses once covered by various ACA provisions will be left with nothing. In particular, individuals with preexisting conditions will often be uninsured entirely, and will often be individuals in need of care the most often. They may also qualify as a group in need of the highest quality ...

Korea was bisected at the end of the Second World War, as a response to the differing political climates which each half of the peninsula espoused – North Korea preferred the communism of the Soviet Union, while South Korea was more in line with the policies and politics espoused by the west, the U.S. in particular. During the early fifties, hostilities between the two halves of the country reached breaking point, and the Korean War broke out, with the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea attempting to reunify the country by conquering South Korea, and the American army attempting to ...
“If it has ‘science’ in its name, it ain’t (Minnick).” Those words were said to this writer by the smartest person he ever knew personally, a man with PhDs in Mathematics and Physics, a true scientist. He went on to explain that science, if it is science, can be reduced to mathematics and then can predict. “Science can generate electricity or flatten cities,” he said. The problem, of course, is that whenever one deals with the “soft sciences,” political science or economics (the dismal science) or sociology or history or any of the disciplines that are housed in ...

Artificial (computer) intelligence is one of the most promising development vectors in computer science and computer engineering. Work in the field of artificial intelligence is aimed at the development of methods, tools and technologies of designing computer systems with a specific function such as training, expert advising, robotics, and others. Unlike conventional programmers, who are involved in the development of well-specified software, artificial intelligence experts are additionally able to formulate specifications, which is one of the biggest challenges in the design of any product. However, the issue remains, as questions continue to arise as to whether human-equivalent artificial intelligence ...

Market discipline has evolved from the real need to address the financial concerns that brought on the last few financial crises. The international economy is tied deeply to the financial sector, and international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank have been tasked with providing ease of liquidity throughout the world, while also helping to protect the flow of capital across borders to facilitate trade. These financial institutions are remarkably limited to what they can do because they hold little sovereignty over the independent nation-states that compose them; only the World Bank is effective when ...

While Hwang and Burns (2016) touch on many different issues impact the homeless population in their article, one of the primary problems facing this group is mental illness and the lack of resources to help them. Description: The court case deals with a dispute over an easement given on a car park's property. The limitation of five hours on the parking area’s use would profoundly limit the access that their customers have to parking. The rights of the easement as expressed by the grantee have ...

Chunking, the technique of grouping similar concepts together in order to aid memory, has long been associated with better working memory performance. The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of chunking on the memorization of words. A total of 18 participants were given a list of 18 words to remember, with nine of these being informed about the technique of chunking before attempting the memory task. The results of an independent samples t-test show that chunking has a significant (p=0.05) effect on the word memorization skills of the participants (t=8.390). This supports previous research that suggests ...
Georgia recognizes the doctrine of employment at will. Employment at will means that in the absence of a written contract of employment for a defined duration, an employer may terminate an employee for a good cause, bad cause, or no cause at all, so long as it is not an illegal cause . An employer cannot terminate an employee for discriminatory reasons, a breach of employment contract, or in retaliation for exercising their employee rights. Discriminatory reasons include race, color, sex, religion, national origin, etc. In order to better understand how at-will employment works, I will provide three different scenarios ...
When attempting to find trace amounts of an inorganic substance x-ray diffraction would be a valuable tool for discovering just what substances were present. It would not be the first choice according to various researchers, but it would be one of the least invasive as well as one of the least likely to destroy the sample. By using x-ray diffraction it is possible to differentiate between substances, making it easier to identify trace elements that can be found in crime scenes. X-ray diffraction is a valuable but slightly limited technique that is used by forensic science thanks to its ...
Implication of Introducing Dual Language at an Early Age
Implication of Introducing Dual Language at an Early Age The acquisition of languages other than a native language has become a matter of great advantage throughout past several decades as the world continues to change. Whether it is the interest in other cultures or the academic and professional advantages it can afford an individual, the need to learn additional languages can provide several benefits. It is common for language practice to begin at earlier ages, but without reinforcement and continual practice it becomes less of a necessity and more of basic beginner’s course that may or may not ...

There was once a time when identifying the wealthy from the poor was a form of profiling which was perfected with ease. It was easier to tell apart a customer who could spend hundreds at a brand store from one who only came with the intent to browse. These signs, however, are no longer as clear as they once were because the wealthy, as well as the middle class, are both changing their habits of consumption. With electronics, the science is simple. Every device starts as a high-end purchase and the price drops as the product becomes common in ...
All Americans are afforded freedom and safety to live their lives, but unfortunately, this is not the case for the LGBT (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual and Transgender) community, specifically speaking the use of public restrooms. It is all too common for them to endure harassment and even violence while attempting to live their lives in peace. We owe it to ourselves to discuss a way forward in public policy and our societal norms, so they do not have to continue to live in fear. The originators of our constructed surroundings have made open offices that are isolated by sexual orientation, ...

Later on he moved to Tacoma with his “sister”, Eleanor Colwell, to Tacoma, Washington. There she met and eventually married Johnnie Bundy. Despite being raised in a stable, working-class home, Ted Bundy still started exhibiting several ...
1. Clearly state in your own words the “surprise ending” in the reading you selected. Clearly identify the point in the reading when you realized that there were elements in the reading that surprised you. Not all of the surprises come at the end. The “surprise ending” of Swift’s “A Modest Proposal” became evident when the work made it apparent that the argument it was making was satire. This became obvious due to the increasingly radical views that were being proposed within the text. As the author continued to monetize and commoditize human life and began discussing trading ...

Answering the question of who one is may be one of the most difficult aspects of the human experience. Identity is one of the great problems, as each person is led to determine who one is and how to lead one’s life, with the aid of others. Usually, most people believe that they know who they are, yet this really turns out to be a conglomeration of different decisions and influences from life events. Some of the most important and influential people that one has during one’s childhood are one’s parents and other adult figures. Nevertheless, ...
The following primary documents include two antifederalist essays and three federalist essays that were published in newspapers three to six months following the Constitutional Convention. The antifederalists aimed to convince the states that the new constitution would not work while the federalists hoped to gain support and ratification of the new constitution. In 1787 and 1788, when the essays were written, the new country was struggling. The Articles of Confederation were not sufficient, and the fears that resulted in the Revolutionary War were still very fresh in the minds of everyone.

Gun control legislation is a very controversial topic and one that has taken a lot of attention in both academic and public policy circles here in the United States for the past 20 or 30 years. One of the most powerful tools which people have discovered to dealing with the issue of controlling who should or shouldn’t have access to guns is through the creation of background checks. The purpose of background checks in a general sense is to allow for gun sellers and overseeing authorities to make sure that they are selling weapons to only those individuals ...

1. Define the ways in which each component (police, courts, and corrections) of the criminal justice system administers justice. Which component is most effective at meeting their goals? Police play the role of working with the public in order to enforce legal requirements and protect the privacy and liberty of individuals. In order to do this, however, police rely on the underlying cultural values and norms of the communities in which they function. Police interact with the public in order to ascertain those that are committing offenses and present these individuals to the criminal justice system for sentencing of ...
One of the major challenges facing healthcare administration is the problem of diversified care. The modern world and all the technological improvements that are found in medicine mean that levels of care are better than ever, but this is not without challenges for administrators. An increasing number of specializations in medicine, for example, mean that administrators must prepare for an increasing number of units and specialists, which in turn leads to problems with funding and human resources. There are also issues associated with the fact that patients are generally more aware of technological advances in medicine, and may be ...
1. A brief summary of the article: The article “Scientists attempting to harvest human organs in pigs create human-pig embryo” discusses the advances made by researchers that were attempting to utilize genetic manipulation of pig embryos in order to grow parts for people who need them. The research was undertaken in the hopes of providing donors with organs who are unable to get them otherwise. By combining human stem cells with pig DNA the researchers were able to demonstrate that this is indeed possible (Nicola and Rawlinson). The advance of gene editing is considered within the article as an ...
In his book “the Origins Of The Second World War In Europe” AJP Taylor makes the argument that the underlying causes of World War II, in contrast to popular sentiment, was the general complexity of political will and international relations at the time, rather than Hitler's dominating influence alongside Fascism and Nazi ideologies. Instead, the various powers, with their individual desires and relational struggles, embarked on the same path which nobody, not even Hitler, had wanted to pursue. Despite the devastation of the Second World War, it is difficult to pin its inception on any one individual. While Hitler ...
Liberty or freedom as a primary social, political and economic ideal which should be strived for is a relatively recent development in world history. The idea that the individual should be the primary subject and that individual freedom is a universal good and something which determines the quality of life and the quality or lack thereof of a government. Freedom is conceived in two different and opposite ways. Positive freedom and negative freedom. The concept of positive freedom is encapsulated by the idea of agency. The idea which a person or subject has agency which means that they have ...
United States has for decades been deeply involved in the Middle East, and particularly in the ongoing conflict between Israel and its various neighbors. This is why there is been a good deal of speculation of late as to how US policy toward Israel during a future Hillary Clinton presidency might differ from (or be similar to) that of the current Obama administration. Since leaving the State Department, Clinton has provided some indication about what her policies would be in the Middle East in general and Israel in particular. Nevertheless, a certain degree of uncertainty still exists. While there ...
In looking at four major issues in community-based corrections and the problems associated with them it is evident that basic legal and financial restraints as well as the involvement of both the local community and government are necessary factors to consider. These factors include a clear definition and statement of goals for the program, clear selection of a target population, the procurement and management of funding and other resources, and the overall engagement that can be elicited from the local communities. These factors demonstrate basic elements that profoundly influence the success or failure of these programs. In assessing these ...
Human history is marked by the construction of artifacts that emerged from creative processes. From the Stone Age wall paintings at Lascaux, France to the painting Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa; from the majestic European cathedrals to decorations made on the tepee dwellings of American Indians, from elaborate wood carvings found in West Africa to pottery and terra cotta made by ancient dynasties in china. The need for creative expression in the form of art seems to be a distinct human form of self expression. In the same vein the need to understand the art appears to be ...
Criminology is a subject that is a very complex debate within the United States in that there are a plethora of theories attempting to explain why there is such a high crime rate. Many of these theories link the heightened crime to the disparity between the class systems that has an affect on the educational level of the citizens, (Gesualdi, Louis, 2014). Other theories relate to the lack of connection between morality and the current generation, (Gesualdi, Louis, 2014). The final theory is that crime is directly tied to the lack of jobs, (Gesualdi, Louis, 2014). These three theories ...

History Paper “Choices made regarding Ani’s preservation cannot escape political implications, and contests over the site’s meaning should be acknowledged rather than ignored and engaged in rather than silenced. It is possible that once admitted, the difficult issues at Ani can become opportunities for creative solutions.” Heghnar Watenpaugh speaks these words about the Turkish-Armenian archeological site of Ani. She believes that Ani’s preservation bodes well for dialogue, reflection, and maybe even reconciliation. Her work relates to physical conservation, but still underlines the importance of preserving memories. This sort of preservation in the Arab world may also ...

African resistance to colonial powers has an extensive history that dates before the nineteenth century. The responses to colonial rule varied by location, religion, and resources that included both violent and nonviolent tactics. It is important to note that most rebellions were complex and strategically planned in the rising intolerance of colonial rule on the continent of Africa. Although Europeans aimed to divide and conquer, they did not always successfully change relationships among African communities who worked together in resistance. Nonetheless, foreign colonial powers were successful in recruiting tribes to assist in conquering other tribes who were in conflict. ...

It is well documented that there is an entire underground economy in the United States, and much of it is at the behest of the millions of undocumented workers that live within its borders. While there are numerous factors contributed to this reality, many illegal immigrants work in jobs that pay them off the books. This results in no taxes being paid by either the employer of the immigrant, and it also results in a lack of legal protections and benefits for the workers. Many of the undocumented workers living in America come to work on farms and in ...
THE ENLIGHTENMENT AND THE FRENCH REVOLUTION
The French Revolution was known for its blood-lined streets, rioting peasants, and terrifying regime changes. However, all death and destruction aside, the protesters of this time were heavily influenced by the thinkers that had come before them and brought new ideas to light. While the results were bloody, the intentions were lodged in modern thought. The Enlightenment was a time that influenced many historical movements in the future and had a significant impact on the political structure of France before and after the revolution. The driving force behind this movement was the writings of the philosophes and their contributions ...
There are a number of lessons that one must learn as one goes through life. But the lesson of attempting to survive through the racial discrimination in the south is one lesson that is most valuable to those who lived in that era. Many blacks can now relate to the racial challenge that Jefferson face in Louisiana in 1948. Like many other blacks during the 1940’s, Jefferson faces death for a murder. Of course the laws during the period did not require much proof to convict a black man as much of the stories of the past reveal ...
There are many manners in which to be a hero; not all of them include donning a cape and fighting evildoers. Some heroes are more intellectual in nature, and all they need to change society’s wrongs is words, be it through pen and paper or by talking. The latter kind is usually not as well-known as the former, yet they have also influenced history in very important ways. One way of bringing society’s ills to light is through satire, of which there have been many master’s throughout the years. This genre ridicules the subject, using irony, ...

Abstract In Emerson’s essay, ‘’Nature’’, we can see how important religion is to him. Each of his essays leads us to an understanding on how to attain a perfect relationship with God through nature. The goal of science here is discover the purpose of nature. But is it necessary to reconcile both science and religion? This essay will be arguing that there is no need for reconciling science and religion since both are independent from each other. The possible solutions are to grasp knowledge of both without the need of differentiating the two and to respect both facts. ...
What is the basis of hermeneutic inquiry?
The basis of hermeneutic inquiry is the use of methods that allow for a deeper level of connection with the content. Rather than being based on a critical inquiry, hermeneutics are developed through a more basic method. Hermeneutics moves beyond simple descriptions in an attempt to better understand what is being communicated or represented within a text. The focus is therefore on making the effort to commit to viewing the content from the point of view of the author. This is done through the establishment of principles that allow for the researcher to develop a more profound attachment to ...

Movie Review:
While not seen as entirely award-worthy the latest installment in the “Fast and Furious” franchise has proven to be just as over the top as its predecessors. Centered on a dynamic pair in actors Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, along with their fellows in crime and racing, the storyline has developed from a peek into the world of underground street racing to a tale that involves far more than just the run of the mill action movie. Few could have predicted with any accuracy that the first film would spawn another, and another, and finally lead into the fan-favorite ...
When taking the first look at this painting, it is impossible not to notice a vast discrepancy between the positive and the negative space of it. The positive space takes up the major and central part of the painting, particularly pushing the negative space aside in the upper half of the canvas. The disproportionate amount of the positive space against the negative space is prominent in this painting. Therefore, the figure of a woman appears to be instantly grasping one’s attention, and the focus is drawn to the upper half of the woman’s body. This is what ...

Brenda Spencer, at age 16, killed two people, injured a police officer as well as several school children when she opened fire on an elementary school across the street from her home while students were arriving for class. Brenda made startling proclamations about the school shooting. She claimed the shooting made her day better, and that the shootings were fun. After being sentenced to twenty-five years to life, she has been denied parole since the incident and remains incarcerated today. There is no comprehensive explanation for the crime of Brenda Spencer. Yet, her mental condition and the positivist theory ...
The process of observing a primate can take on many shapes and forms. Prior to beginning my observation, I was not sure what approach I would take because I didn’t know what animals and in what order I would be able to observe these animals. Once I reached the facility, however, I realized that ab-lib sampling would be the most effective approach for me because the monkeys were spread out and it was difficult to consistently observe one group of these together. Similarly, I did not think focal sampling would be effective in this instance, because such an ...
Jonathan Glazer’s 2013 science fiction film Under the Skin is a supremely stylized, innately profound work that utilizes kaleidoscopic visuals and an unsettling performance from Scarlett Johannson to explore issues of the male gaze and take them to their furthest conclusion. Telling the story of an alien (Johansson) who comes to Earth and entices men with sex for her own twisted, mysterious purposes, Under the Skin charts the progression of a woman’s experience by simultaneously giving her a power and a predatory agency that women are not typically afforded, then stripping that agency away bit by bit ...
No matter what newspaper, magazine or online advertising that is being reviewed it is likely that they will see ads featuring female models representing any number of products. Some advertising is directed towards the male demographic, this includes everything from auto parts to cologne. Other advertising is directed at women, encouraging them to purchase the products that will make them look like the women in the ads. Either way, there are beautiful, young women peddling products. However, both, men and women are being misled by advertising; it is women who are more often than not objectified, over sexualized and ...

The existence of secularism in the Islamic society as asserted in the articles was a projection of the Western powers that advanced their interests through sponsored opposition to the rising calls for Islamic unity. The adjudication of the Islamic laws as a sectarian system of governance in which only Allah was to be exalted and no any other God thus remains far-fetched ideology that was aimed at achieving anterior motives. In the view of the authors, the underlying political struggles of the Arab world regarding politics is merely a clash of interest between the nationalists, communists and the foreign ...

The therapeutic goals of play therapy within child counseling are to establish a basis upon which non-verbal psychological processes can be better understood and to enhance the capacity of the therapeutic counselor to provide effective treatment to those that they are working with. The way in which these treatments are developed can have a profound impact on the underlying capacity of the counselor to establish an emotion-based relationship with the child that they are trying to help. The therapeutic process by which this is done is through counseling sessions between professional play therapists and children who are believed to ...
While every theoretical framework has merit, this author believes that many of the dominant theories-- realism (specifically neorealism, in contrast to “classical realism”), liberalism and neofunctionalism--are inadequate in their ability to properly describe the changes that have taken place in recent Turkish international relations. For the purposes of this study, the author has concluded that the most meritorious theories which can be applied towards Turkey are three main bodies of the “New Institutionalisms”: Rational-Choice Institutionalism, Sociological Institutionalism and Historical Institutionalism. These theoretical frameworks have been chosen because of their flexibility. A major drawback of most theoretical models is ...
In the Economist debate over the presence and legitimacy of the ‘global elite,’ Jamie Whyte and Daniel Ben-Ami argued both for and against, respectively, the right of the global elite to have the majority of wealth in the world. They also discussed whether or not they subjectively ‘deserved’ to be there, and whether their status on the top was beneficial for the whole of humanity – whether they ‘served the masses’. Jamie Whyte argued for the legitimacy of the elite, as they are providing services and purposes that are proportional in importance to their income ...
Abstract
In advertising throughout the past few centuries, women have placed in one of several limiting roles. One is the extremely thin fashion model, a sex symbol for the typical man whose main role is to be pretty and attract men. The other is the domestic partner, the woman who takes care of the house to the exclusion of all personal desires and responsibilities. There is also the incompetent, the dullard; the weak-willed woman who simply cannot handle the limited and finite duties that are burdened upon her. In this paper, the effects of negative advertising on women will be explored, ...
