Background HPV or Human Papillomavirus is the causative organism of cervical cancer. This virus is primarily acquired sexually, when a person is in sexual contact with an infected person. Infection takes years to decades before appearing in the form of cervical cancer. It is the most prevalent sexually transmitted infection in the United States (Balog, 2009).
