Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR), the ecosystem under study, is situated in the foothills of the Himalayas i.e. the Shiwalik range and falls within Nainital and Pauri Garhwal districts of the state of Uttarakhand. Corbett National Park (CNP), 520.82 km2, and 301.18 km2 of adjoining Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary along with 466.32 sq.km of buffer zone together forms 1288.32 km2 of the tiger reserve (Barthari 12).
