This article illuminates a new vision on the child mortality issues in 1841 Barbados. It studies the crisis of child mortality from the perspective of a prolonged struggle for the need to control Afro-Barbadian families found during the slavery period. The article shows the significance of kinship relationships during the times of slavery and provides an important link to literature of freedom.
