In the article by Bogduk (2004), back pain that persists for over three months is classified into three types: reductionism, multi-disciplinary therapy, and mono-therapy. The reductionism classification should be used if there is need to have a specific diagnosis. Multi-disciplinary therapy is appropriate when that patient is able to participate in exercise.
