Abstract

This essay assesses whether Australian federalism has or has not changed dramatically since the Constitution was inaugurated in 1901. It looks at the way the central government (the Commonwealth) and the State governments have interacted, and the various changes along the way that have shifted the balance of powers to reach the point we are at today.
