According to the 2012 census, the United States total population is estimated to be over 313 million; this represents a 9.7% increase within a period of 10 years (Thomas, 2014). Moreover, the composition of the population is one of the most diverse in the world; it’s made up of people with different racial and ethnic backgrounds ranging from Caucasians or the Whites, the Blacks or African Americans, American Indian and Alaska Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islanders, and the Hispanics or Latinos. As a result, the diverse U.S. population has serious implications on the United States ...

After a read of Belinda Sutton’s 1783 Petition and the 1791 letter dubbed To Thomas Jefferson from Benjamin Banneker, it is impossible to overlook the authors’ shared perception of men and women of color deserving more than what the Caucasians gave them at the time. Sutton believed that after her years of captivity as the human chattel of one Isaac Royall, she should have a “morsel of [the] immense wealth” her servitude under bondage had given the master (1783, par.5). Similarly, in a wider perspective of the racist ideologies that fueled the slavery system, Banneker insisted that his ...
While the resulting dominance of European powers over persons in the areas with which they came into contact was acceptable, the effects of global trade on societal norms of Europe were unprecedented. In other words, just as the Triangle Trade influenced Europe’s place in the world, it also affected its interior societal makeup. The Emergence of Industrial Society in the West highlights the three steps that led to the Age of Revolutions: Commercial Revolution, Scientific Revolution, and Enlightenment (5mins).The Commercial Revolution posed the first threat to European traditions by debunking the ideologies of birthrights as the source ...
The positive aspects of Booker T. Washington’s position on the assimilation of blacks into the free communities of the United States revolve around his recognition of the rigid color line that existed at the time. Even with a Civil War tarnishing the nation’s history, traditions remained unchanged and white supremacy was the epitome of American cultural norms. To that end, Washington’s argument that persons of African descent ought to “cast down [their] bucket where [they were]” is perhaps the best advice anybody could have given the ex-slaves (1895, par.4). After all, the abolition of slavery not ...
Introduction
The question of racial discrimination in the legal system of the United States is a sought after topic despite limited evidence to support its existence at present. Although the nation once participated in discriminatory practices in the past, the majority of the activities ceased during the last few decades. Despite sweeping developments in recent years, the news never grows old while reporting a possible aberration. This research paper examines the evidence of data available in the books against the media reports which claim the rampant existence of racial discrimination. Each section in this research paper will raise question regarding ...

There has been a reason for outrage as police brutality has escalated and many incidents have become more visible in communities today although was also present in years past. For example, according to Darden and Thomas, “If African Americans in Detroit between 1925 and 1945 were to name the worst racial abuses they had to encounter, without a moment’s hesitation they would have said “white police brutality” (Darden and Thomas 29). This has helped to encourage reporting of police brutality. But, citizens like Victor Rios who have experienced police brutality filed complaints and was simply ignored (Rios 59). ...

Equal access to healthcare is essential to the sustainability of any nation. In fact, lack thereof compromises the survival rates of any population as it heightens the mortality rates. In the article, of disparities and diversity: Where are we? Gloria Sarto seeks to provide a rationale for the high levels of differences in the medical sector. She compares the minority population’s accessibility to healthcare facilities as opposed to the largely white community in the United States. Through this comparison, she establishes a credible argument on the need to eliminate health disparities among people around the globe. For instance, ...
Despite the fact that both the United States and Brazil have a history of the institution of slavery, each country documented a different reaction to the emancipation of those in bondage. Racial relations among Brazilians were significantly different in comparison to the documented experiences of African Americans residing in the United States after the abolition of slavery. For instance, while African Americans became subject to discriminatory laws that included Jim Crow Laws and Black Codes, Brazil did not experience the same form of government-imposed racism. In other words, legislations did not institutionalize racism among the people of Brazil; however, ...
After the American Civil War of between 1861and 1865, the federal government abolished slavery in the United States through the endorsement of the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution. Subsequently, before the law, persons of African descent were free from the yoke of bondage and concurrently, the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments declared black people as citizens of the United States and gave them the rights to vote respectively. In other words, racial divisions were no longer recognizable before the law and as a result, equality among blacks and whites was possible. The problem was that white supremacy was not a ...
Even in the 21st century, the problems of race, class, gender, and ethnicity did not disappear from the terrains of the U.S. The country holds tragic experiences in the history regarding the unequal dissemination of power that led to the catastrophic outcomes, including the slavery, economic downturns, and a failure to establish equal and sound social relationship in the community. While the liberalist principles prevail in the current political and social frameworks, there are a lot of inequalities existing in the American society, where the representatives of non-Caucasian ethnicity tend to be poorer, women still earn less than men ...
Source: (Nash et al. 474)
The selected source is a Thomas Nast creation dubbed The End of Slavery? Currently, the cartoon has no copyrights after its original publication in 1867 in the Harper's Weekly newspaper. The visual primary source depicts two scenes and in both, a woman wearing a tunic sits upon a pedestal surrounded by both black and white characters, she represents American liberty. For a thorough description of the picture, there is a need to focus on the two scenes separately. On the left, there is a slave auction going on as white men stand around the raised platform, and two more ...
A reading of Wakatsuki Houston’s Farewell to Manzanar and Melba Pattillo Beals’ Warriors Don't Cry reveals that racial prejudice in the twentieth-century societies of the United States was against anybody who was not Caucasian. In other words, while Houston’s work focuses on the Japanese-Americans’ experiences after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the internment that came after, Beals talks of black segregation and the laws that declared black people inferior to the whites. Hence, there are similarities between the two books as they revolve around ideas of white supremacy that placed persons of African and Japanese descent ...
On Prison Reforms
Initially, between the sixteenth and seventeenth century, prisons were not meant to punish offenders. Rather, they were the holding places in which the people who dared to break a law and social norms remained until their due punishment. In other words, if one were to steal of murder, he or she would go to prison and wait for trial after which, based on the type of crime, the punishment would ensue. From whippings to executions, the kinds of sanctions in the years leading to prison reforms were swift. Accordingly, prisons lacked any form of order and were mostly poorly ...
Golub, Mark. "Plessy as "Passing": Judicial Responses to Ambiguously Raced Bodies in Plessy v. Ferguson." Law & Society Review, 39, no. 3 (2005): 563-600.
Synopsis
Homer Plessy’s decision to purchase a ticket as a white man, and to later confess that he is indeed black, was part of “a test case” conducted by the Creole community of New Orleans. As per the terms of the Louisiana Separate Car Act of 1890, Caucasians and persons of African descent were subject to traveling in different railway cars to serve the purposes of racial segregation. In the article, Golub quotes Plessy’ ...
Introduction
Since its establishment, Disney was known to promote racism through racial messages embedded within their films for several years. Though many people assert that Disney followed the signs of the time, it was against the moral law to be insensitive to other cultures while promoting the interest of another race which was perceived as superior. Dumbo, for example, was a film laced with racists messages. Disney has embraced the word, Crow, to stereotype African Americans as cigar smokers, lazy as well as associated with criminal activities. Peter Pan film also emphasized the notion of racial discrimination against other cultures. ...
On Why Admissions In United States’ Colleges And Universities Should Not Consider Race Essay Samples
Present day education systems of the United States of America are subject to racially diversified college classrooms that are significantly different from the classes that existed by the second half of the twentieth century. The notable change is the outcome of “affirmative action” that became law under the Executive Order 11246 courtesy of President Lyndon Johnson in 1965. As per the terms of the executive order, publicly funded companies could not discriminate based on any traits including skin color, gender, and religion. In the end, the action sought to serve two purposes: make efforts to allocate equal opportunity for ...
The Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee or the SNCC, as the name suggests, revolved around peaceful forms of resistance to the white supremacy ideologies that not only warranted the enslavement of blacks in the antebellum period but also cemented the grounds of segregation. In other words, because of the racial divisions that existed between persons of African descent and their white counterparts, American societies functioned around a social hierarchy that made whites the predominantly superior race at the expense of blacks. Now, to end the racial injustices in the Southern States, the first method that the SNCC employed encompassed the “ ...

From Africa to the Americas: Ethnicity in the Early Black Communities of the Americas. Journal of World History, 6(2), 223-236. According to Ruth Mayer’s Africa as an Alien Future (2000), there remains a connection between the African Diaspora community and the motherland. In the author’s words, African culture remains evident even in contemporary works such as “literature, installation art, [and] pop music” in which the passages between Africa and ...
Brian DePalma’s 1983 film Scarface is one of the most well-known drug and crime films in the history of popular culture. Everyone knows Tony Montana’s famous line, “say hello to my little friend” (DePalma, Scarface), regardless of whether they have even seen the film or not. However, what many people do not realize about the film are the many racial undertones and stereotypes that occur within the layers of context. The film is based around the conflict between Cubans and Americans, beginning with the importation of Cuban refugees to the United States to the escalation of the ...
The color line that defines the history of the United States, from the antebellum period to the years of the Civil Rights movement, is evident in Melissa Fay Greene’s work. Dubbed Praying for Sheetrock, the text revolves around the changes in the cultural norms that guided the society of McIntosh County, Georgia, in the last half of the twentieth century. For that reason, the book allows readers to witness an extension of the Civil Rights Movement that historians tend to overlook, one that is away from the streets of Alabama and Atlanta. Thus said, the protagonist and the ...
Before the Southerners and Northerners took up arms against each other to fight the American Civil War of between 1861 and 1865, the former faction seceded to form the Confederacy and protect the slavery system from abolition. Apparently, disparities over the rights of persons of African descent were enough to warrant the battle, and as one would expect, the situation did not change after 1865. In what historians have since dubbed as the Reconstruction Era, the Northern and Southern States faced new dilemmas after the Civil War that not only emancipated slaves but also preserved the Union by dismantling ...
Introduction
Child rearing encompasses the diverse practices of parenting meant to instill different attitudes and behavior in children. John Locke proposed the idea that children are born devoid of any values and beliefs and that these are conveyed to them by the society which they are born into (Spera 125). Child rearing entails a process of transmitting skills, attitudes, and behaviors to the young to assist their integration into a cultural community (Spera 126). Parents are amongst the most influential agents of socialization that interact with children through the child rearing process. Child rearing practices include parental involvement in the ...
For one to understand Michelle Alexander’s ideologies on the barriers that hinder the success of African-Americans, an exploration of her arguments is necessary. Accordingly, the author insists on the existence of a “rigid social stratification” that seeks to instill the values of white supremacy in the United States through the mass incarceration of colored persons (Alexander talk, par.1). Now, while the physical separation of whites and other racial groups is evident in the country’s present-day prison systems, the method is merely the latest invention by the supremacist Caucasians. Initially, in the antebellum period, the institution of slavery ...

Executive Summary
Recent news reports on racial minorities being shot and killed by the police, or by those taken into custody and are reported to have died while in that situation, pose a grim reminder that the relationship of law enforcement and the racial minorities in the United States have been one filled with tension and conflict, mistrust and suspicion, fear and force, and domination and struggle. This is not a civil rights position paper; rather, this is a research geared to proffer that the instance of encounters between racial minorities and the police have been generally characterized by conflict ...
Before the American Civil War of between 1861 and 1865, black slavery in the United States thrived on the pillars of white supremacy. Otherwise dubbed the antebellum period, the years ranging from 1820 to 1860 witnessed a gradual yet steady increase in the country’s reliance on slave labor. As per the ideologies of white supremacy, the dominance of white people warranted the inferiority of colored individuals and as a result, everyone belonging to the former group could hold those of the latter faction in bondage. Accordingly, the cultural norms of the country during the given era encompassed the ...
Drapetomania referred to an alleged disease of the mind that only affected black people. Apparently, upon infection, a black person becomes mad and would often act in an unexplainable manner because his or her brains would not have normal function. For that reason, when slaves ran away, they were mentally sick, and the situation was getting out of hand since the doctors were yet to understand the details of drapetomania. If Caucasians failed to exert their God-given authority over the black population, the latter group would become idle because it is in their nature to be so. In other ...
Intersectionality Theory
Introduction Throughout the human history, people are renowned to classify themselves based on their difference in cultural values, religion, race and ethnic diversity. The American society is no difference from the above case, an aspect that has led to the division of people into two important social classes, which include the minorities and majorities. This attribute is often triggered by racial difference. Race, as will be used in the above study, indicates different groups of people who share a common range of traits that are biologically transmitted. Some of the important races in the American society include the Caucasians, ...
My understanding of diversity in the United States has undergone a tremendous amount of transformation in recent weeks and months compared to my own assumptions in the past. As a white person, I have understood a relatively significant amount of privilege in the United States as a result of my ethnicity – I do not experience discrimination on an everyday level like many do in minority communities. To that end, it takes me much more direct investigation and conscious exploration of American life and how it is lived to be cognizant of the systemic inequalities that occur in this nation. As I learn more ...
Statistics from the American department of justice reveal massive disparities in the numbers of incarcerated people among the Hispanic, African Americans and the whites (Caucasians). Going by statistics, a considerably large number of African Americans (10%) were behind the bars as opposed to only 2.4% and 1.2% of Hispanic whites and non-Hispanic whites respectively (Travis, Western, Redburn & National Research Council U.S, 2014). The aforementioned figures give a big picture of the incarceration disparities as of the year 2003.In addition, these statistics attest to the fact that at the age of between 25 to 29years, African American males are more likely ...
Abstract
Factor V Leiden is a genetic mutation that confers resistance to the action of activated protein C and thus predisposes to venous thromboembolism. It’s inherited as an autosomal dominant trait and is prevalent amongst Caucasians with a carrier rate of 4%. Deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism are the most common clinical manifestations of FVL related VTE although it can also affect other sites. Genetic testing for FVL is used for diagnostic as well as predictive purposes. Diagnosis of FVL is based on protein assays and
DNA analysis technology. Familial genetic testing for FVL is generally not recommended except in ...

Whitewashing is a term that means to have black culture, such as rap or hip-hop, invaded and taken over by the white population. Today, many black artists are angry that white rappers are becoming famous, acting like they are black while singing and representing a false black cultural heritage. This can diminish the social importance of the messages of popular black artists by making them look like a joke. Whitewashing can have a positive side. White rappers can draw audiences to the genre of rap and black artists, introducing white people to an entire new experience with black culture. However, getting those in ...
The original cowboys were all white. Meaning, they were all Caucasians. However, long before they came into being, there were already other cowboys on the making. This was in Texas where a group of slaves worked in ranches. The period was the early nineteenth century. As was discussed above, cowboys mainly gained prominence in the late nineteenth century. Black slaves were mainly born into slavery, but they later gained a life away from slavery in the ranches. This is where the thesis of this paper is deduced. Black men became cowboys so as to avoid the discrimination and shame associated with ...
Skin cancer or metastatic melanoma is one of the most aggressive types of cancer (Chin, Garraway, and Fisher, 2006). Understanding the physical or phenotypic alterations that occur in relation to skin cancer requires getting acquainted with its pathophysiology. Furthermore, learning the pathophysiology of metastatic melanoma can lead us to a better understanding of what may be most effective in curing the disease. Metastatic melanoma, causing approximately 13,000 deaths annually with a median overall survival (OS) period of 8 to 18 months, is considered as one of the most aggressive and prevalent types of cancer (Finn, Markovic, and Joseph, 2012). ...
A society can’t live without law because it imposes rules that make people in order. If somebody breaks a law, then there is a place that is intended for him or her – jail. America is renowned as the land of the free because of its laws that govern people in order. However, justice and mercy are sometimes not working in harmony. Some captive prisoners are actually innocent and some people of lesser assaults are still on the streets because of the use of money. However, the numbers of prisoners in the United States still reach in million. Government is allocating ...

During the past several decades, a lot of scientists studied various aspects of depression, including its treatment, reasons and consequences. These scientists have provided answers for a lot of questions in respect of the depressive disorder, gathered knowledge and solid experience, offered many methods of its prevention. The investigations provided us with a profound knowledge of the depressive disorder. However, it is not easy to answer the questions: what do people with depressive disorder need? How to treat people suffering from depression effectively? The researcher Pim Cuijpers, professor of Clinical Psychology, in his article makes stress on ...

Introduction “meeting the health needs of all persons, viewed as free and equal citizens, is of comparable and special moral importance” –Justice and Access to Health Care, Norman Daniels The above statement expresses the sentiments of persons who concur with the idea that there should be universal access to healthcare. The concept of distributive healthcare prevents this from taking place since it subjects persons to a screening process to determine their eligibility for certain types of healthcare. Additionally, distributive healthcare also promotes discrimination of persons, even substance abusers, in need of dire care at ...
What is the thesis of Takasi’s Essay? What is the evidence that he offers for its truth? Do you find this argument convincing? In the essay entitled the Harmful Myth of Asian Superiority, author Ronald Takaki tries explain that contrary to what other members of cultural minorities in the United States perceive or believe, Asian Americans are not superior both in terms of their personal and family income and educational background. Takaki exposes that most American cultural minorities such as the African Americans, for example, perceive that Asian Americans are superior to them as a cultural minority. The ...
The graduation rate for Hispanic students has risen, but the dropout rate for Hispanic students is still the highest among their African-American, Asian, and White peers. This results in too few Hispanics enrolling in college or other higher education programs, which segues into low employment rates and a higher level of poverty within Hispanic families. Hispanics are the fastest-growing ethnic minority in the United States today. Hispanic children are an important part of America’s future. Taking into account their growing numbers, they are going to become a crucial part of the work force once they reach adulthood. They are going ...

Asthma is a common lung disease that remains a great challenge to health care management systems in several countries. Particularly in US there is an evident disproportionality in its prevalence. Asthma is more common among minorities especially African-Americans compared to others, and its control seems to be complicated by several socio-economic factors. In this paper, these are discussed in detail.
Disease and Symptoms
A lung disorder characterized by reversible obstruction of the respiratory tract is known as asthma. This obstruction occurs due to inflammation in response to allergens such as pollen, dust or smoke, stress, exercise or changes in environmental conditions. Asthma is also ...
Question 1: Research Questions and purpose
This research was purposely designed to investigate the effects associated with racial stressors on the cardio-vascular responses among both the African Americans and the Caucasian men. It was also tailored to capture the role played by hostility in exacerbating cardio-vascular responses. It was set to test the previous studies that had asserted that anger-provoking and racist stimuli elicited greater increases n the blood pressure than neutral stimuli in both the African Americans as well as their Caucasian counterparts.
Some of the research questions this study was responding to include:
- What is the role of hostility in exacerbating cardiovascular responses? - Do race stressors increase cardiovascular responses than other ...
Diversity and differences among the groups of people is one reality in this earth. The world is composed of people with distinctive traits, culture, tradition and physique. How these differences will be respected in the sense of providing equal rights and privileges despite the differences remains a challenge for many nations and even for many institutions. M. A. MacConaill defined the difference between ethnicity and race. According to him, race refers to the physical characteristic of the group of people. A good example is the comparison of the characteristics of Caucasians and Asians. Caucasians have white skin, usually round ...
Abstract
This study tested if stereotype threat affects people’s choices when answering Implicit Association Test for Race. Stereotype threat is used to describe the psychological phenomenon whereby a negative stereotype about one’s group puts an individual at risk for confirming that negative stereotype (Steele & Aronson, 1995). During President Obama’s inauguration, studies showed that the performance gap between white and black students diminished (Mattimore, 2009). We are interested to know through our study if this change in attitude is reflected by the people’s attitude to the different races as well. Our class gathered 74 participants, 60 females and ...
BDI-Older Adults
Among the older adults, the screening for depressive symptoms is important because of the ubiquitous nature of mood problem in this population. Despite the low rates of diagnosable depression, depressive symptoms are relatively high with an estimate of 15 to 25 percent. These symptoms among the old are associated with decreased social functioning, poor quality of life, physical disability, cognitive impairment and suicide (Segal, et. al, 2008). A case study involving 64 adult women from independent living facilities was conducted by Jefferson, Powers and Pope (2000) and the report showed that the BDI-II had good internal consistency. Further reports ...

The service that police agencies towards a community cannot be belittled. However, the effectiveness of an agency while dealing with various responsibilities from the management to operational level depends on various aspects. The operations command of a police department is usually perceived, rightly so, as the most important. However, it is important to note from the outset that most operational work is usually performed without the watchful eyes of the administrators. As such, effective work depends on the motivational levels and professionalism of the officers. - How the history of the agency has contributed most of the issues that have ...

Urban centers are reliant of proper and insight planning and renewal policies in order to cope with increased social-economic demands from their populace. Milwaukee’s Washington Park and Riverwest neighborhoods contrast in some neighborhoods indictors such as housing, population, demographics, social life and economic status. While Riverwest neighborhood is lowly populated at 11, 653 residents most of whom are Caucasians, Washington Park has a small population of 1,184 dominated by African Americans. Economically the two neighborhoods have a significant difference with Washington Park boasting an average median household income of $23,327 while Riverwest households average at $30, 436. These ...
What does it take to develop a good student teacher relationship? How do we ensure that we have a student learn and not just get lectured upon? How do we ensure that we have ethical teaching and not deviate from the set standards? How do we asses learners? All these questions and more are going to be answered in this pedagogy. The first question is of course on how to develop a rapport between a lecturer and a student. The key to this of course lies in the art of communication. The way a teacher or lecturer communicates with the learner will determine the ...
Summary:
What makes a good student “good” lays is determined by socially relevant discussion of college admission principles. Personality relates to school performance though academic achievement is more of intellect than personality. Meta-analysis results show that conscientiousness is related to academic performance. Conscientiousness is reliable since it is free from complications. Academic achievement is weakly linked with personality features. The study seeks clarity on earlier studies. That is, lack of consistence in determining academic success and near-exclusive use of self-report personality measures. It is hypothesized that conscientiousness will not show difference in ethnicity SAT scores but will explain incremental variance ...
<Name> <Professor> <Subject> Analyzing Two Poems: Money Won’t Change It (But Time Will Take You On) and A Small Moment by Cornelius Eady
Introduction
Poetry, as with all other forms of literature, gains inspiration from community life, in that poets tend to write about scenes that characterize what they witness from their surroundings every single day. As a communicatory art form, poetry does not just limit itself to a patch of words that conceal abstract meanings. Rather, poetry also has the power to paint images of life within the community through creative words (Kryder 34-37). ...
Personal Action Plan Observation
Introduction Social class can be defined as a hierarchical stratification or distinction that exists between individuals or societal cultures and groups (Webster’s online dictionary, n.d.). My major objective in this paper is to present an observation of a different social class from my own and thereafter formulate an action plan that is based on my observation and also determine how to use the new knowledge I have gained since it is related to diversity consciousness.
I normally consider myself as a middle class individual. This assumption is based on my college education, income and my general state of living. Since ...
In America, the whole working class has shifted during the time the nation underwent a change from a society based of agriculture to a society profoundly based on the industrial activity. With the industrial revolution, started a continuous increase of search for factory employees, who would work on mass production of various products; these would be organized in a steep hierarchy, having mostly an unskilled labor and receiving low wages for many work hours.
Of course, with such conditions, workers were not happy with their work situation and, soon, labor unions began to surge.
This rapid growth and evolution lead to the concentration, in just 1% of the national population, of more wealth than in the remaining 99%, with a massive social difference. By this ...
As described by Makarenko (2010), the Canadian nation is an increasingly ethnically and culturally diverse country. The policy that has made this possible is the country’s official multiculturalism, which was introduced in 1970s. Although the multiculturalism policy has been in existence for more than 40 years in Canada, it stills remains highly controversial and a constantly debated issue. Many scholars have already looked at the introduction of this policy and documented it in different forms. For instance, Hurst (2007) regards multiculturalism policy in Canada as a cultural mosaic. Hurst (2007) asserts that cultural mosaic was the metaphor that came into ...
In his play M. Butterfly, David Henry Hwang presents traditional gender and cultural stereotypes of male dominance, female submission, Caucasian power, and Asian mysteriousness. The character Rene Gallimard displays typically male characteristics of strength and control when he deliberately delays contact with the character Song. He and other Caucasian characters are in positions of power within their government, and emphasize their perceived strength over Asian countries. The character Song appears to submit completely to Gallimard’s requests, frequently emphasizing traditionally female characteristics of passivity and modesty. Song also maintains a sense of mystery by refusing to unclothe herself. Ultimately, in ...
In the case study involving the flu strain spreading in urban Minnesota, there certainly is a moral dilemma, as there would be in any situation where one has a vaccine for a potentially deadly disease but not enough of that vaccine to protect all of the members of a given population. In the case of the influenza, it is a frightening disease. Between September of 1918 and June of 1919, 675,000 Americans died of either pneumonia or influenza, easily more than the number of Americans killed in both World Wars, Korea and Vietnam (Redican). Intriguingly, though, it was the young adults, normally among ...
The American Civil War, fought between 1861 and 1865, was a fervent attempt by the South to secede from the United States of America owing to political and ideological disputes, arising primarily from the latter’s attachment to slavery. By and large, the United States of America and the feuding South were not entirely different with respect to other core social, political, economic and religious principles. According to Perman and Taylor (29), the only visible and relevant different between the two was the issue of slavery. This means that they both were essentially adherents of the same socio-economic and political ...
Some people believe that a criminal justice system cannot convict innocent persons, but, the fact remains that many individuals have been victims of wrongful convictions. The highest number of wrongful convictions occurred in the 1980s, and the Darryl Hunt case is one of them. The main problem that led to wrongful conviction was the fact that DNA finger printing was still at its infancy stage. However, as the technology advanced, DNA exonerations for crimes convicted between the years 1982 and 1989, started to take the course. The following paper bases on the Darryl Hunt’s case that saw him convicted ...

Loneliness in individuals is being measured in the study using the Revised UCLA Loneliness Scale (RULS). The purpose of the twenty questions used in the RULS is to see the level of loneliness in different people. The population studied was of a sample size of fifteen people. These individuals varied from the ages of 18 and up. Most were married male Caucasians of the middle class. The scores of each respondent are added up and can fall between the ranges of twenty to eighty. Higher scores would indicate that the individual is considered lonelier. This study would be very ...
Throughout the history of the United States policing, there has been strenuous or tensions between the police and other law enforcement agencies and the minorities and people in low social economic classes.
