One of the most common diseases in the world today is diabetes. The statistics show that in the year 2000, it was prevalent in approximately 180 million people, and the figure is rapidly increasing and reaching epidemic proportions (1). This increase is constantly being associated with higher mortality rates. However, early diabetes and pre-diabetes screening may assist in the reduction of complications arising from diabetes.
