The term Manifest Destiny was coined in 1845 by John O’Sullivan, a newspaper editor. It was the belief in divine providence where Americans people believed that they were destined to control the land by expanding their territory. In addition, they also hoped to achieve economic stability and freedom for the people (Jarnow, 2014).
