Abiotic factors which include climate are known to affect plant growth. Elevation which influences the climatic conditions can directly affect the tree height. The trees in higher elevation are thought to be shorter than trees in lower elevation because of the low temperatures which directly affects the height of trees. The experiment was done to ascertain tree height difference and to fulfil the deadline. The hypothesis for the experiment was that trees in lower elevation grow taller than trees at a higher elevation. The methodology for the experiment included measuring tree height in high and low elevations. Tree height ...

The paper gives an overview of the threat models, STRIDE and PASTA. The threat modeling process involves optimization of the security connection by classifying the purposes and susceptibilities (Mc, 2013). The security measures are defined to control the threat effects in the system. The acronym STRIDE stands for spoofing, tampering, repudiation, information, denying and elevation. An example is a case where an individual hacks the username and passwords of other persons. Tampering involves the alteration of data stored in the database. On the other hand, repudiation refers to the situation where an individual transacts illegal transactions that cannot be ...
Proper nutrition and diet is a major variable to consider in patient’s well-being. A myriad of health or medical conditions can be managed or prevented through dietary measures. This means that nutrition and hydration assessment should be part of the overall functional assessment of a patient. JT is a 66-year old female with a history of diabetes. The IADL Scale was administered to this patient to assess her daily living functioning on a number of areas including diet and nutrition (Russell, 2015). Hypertension in children is becoming a growing healthcare concern in America. It is quite common to see reports of hypertension in children. Most cases of hypertension in children remains undiagnosed and therefore the present prevalence is an underestimation of the real scenario. Unlike adults, the normal blood pressure values in children can vary based on their age and height, and thus borderline cases of hypertension, escape diagnosis. Sedentary lifestyle and obesity are important risk factors for hypertension in children. Through proper lifestyle practices and diet, hypertension can be prevented in children. Preventing hypertension in children is important as hypertension ...
Main Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease
According to the World Heart Federation (WHF, 2016), the majority of cardiovascular disease (CVD)’s etiology stems from risk factors that can easily be controlled or managed or modified although a few other risk factors cannot be controlled. For that matter, the risk factors can be grouped into two broader categories (I) modifiable factors and (II) non-modifiable factors. For the modifiable factors, they include hypertension, cholesterol, unhealthy diets, obesity and overweight, physical inactivity, and the use of tobacco (WHF, 2016). On the other hand, the non-modifiable factors include age; the risk of CVD increases with age because as a ...

INTRODUCING EMERGENCY SEVERITY INDEX (ESI) FOR BETTER PATIENT OUTCOME
Introducing Emergency Severity Index (ESI) for Better Patient Outcome Introduction to ESI The core objective of various triage tools across the emergency department attributes to the systematic prioritization of the patients in accordance with the severity of their clinical conditions in the context of determining the period until which the patient might wait in the emergency department before his/her evaluation by the healthcare professionals (Gilboy et al., 2011). The nurse professional after executing a focused assessment of the patient determines the waiting time and accordingly provides a triage acuity level of the patient in the emergency department. The patient ...
While the Etiology of the ADHD remains unclear, there are many theories, which should give an answer about the causes of disease. Current generally accepted theories believe that genetic factors and the environment in which the child grows play a key role in the development of the disease. The most attention is drawn to the differences of genes, which control dopamine neurotransmission in the brain of the ADHD patients. Dopamine plays an important role in cognitive activities. Activation of dopaminergic transmission is necessary for the processes of switching attention from one stage of human cognitive activity to another. According ...

Ventilator-associated pneumonia
Abstract The intensive care unit in most hospitals plays the role of providing care to patients dealing with life-threatening conditions. The technological and other set ups in these hospital units are vital in ensuring that these patients continue to receive the best regarding care while with the intentions of having them emerge with desirable outcomes. There are however challenges relating to the care that these patients receive since, in most cases, they are usually under mechanical ventilation. A patient under this condition faces the risk of developing ventilator-associated pneumonia if the ventilators are not handled with the required care. ...
Introductory Remarks
The USA has always prided itself on being a byword for the land of opportunities any person can enjoy. Such optimism may end where the issue of the minimum wage starts, as employees find themselves constrained by a salary ceiling. Forced into low-income groups of earners, there is nothing they can do except resort to aid or social programs to meet their individual or family needs. The situation round the use of aid has come to reach an alarming point judging by the scope of the issue. Employees representing fast food, home care, childcare, and part-time college faculty sectors ...

I agree with you that parabolas are everywhere in our life and rarely do we pay attention to see them. Apart from contact lenses, burning mirrors use the concept of parabolas. For parabolas, the optical property refers to the lines that are perpendicular to the directrix ‘bounce off’ and converges at the focus. Alternatively, the line from the focus may ‘bounce off’ the parabolas and travel perpendicularly to the directrix. These properties are useful in making the burning mirror. Moreover, the concept of parabola applies to car headlights. In this case, one places the bulb on the focus of ...
Introduction
The flow of a given volume of fluid through a pipe requires a given amount of energy. In order for fluid flow to occur, there must be pressure or energy difference. During fluid flow through a pipe, energy is lost. The main causes of this loss are the resistance encountered by the fluid in the process of its movement through the pipe. Viscosity is one of the most common forms of resistance to fluid flow through a pipe (Noltingk, 1985, p. 5). Fluids that have high viscosity tend to exhibit high resistance while flowing through a pipe (Considine and ...

Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is an infection which often develops as a result of poor handling of mechanical ventilation. Such as, poor nursing practice in caring for patients with difficulty in breathing can lead to microorganisms entering patient’s body through a tube inserted especially via mouth and nose of the patient. When these microorganisms get into the respiratory system they cause lung infection which is referred to as ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). In preventing this infection, it is important that nurses adopt best practices to reduce the incidence of VAP and provide quality care that is aimed at improving the ...

Sinkholes; Made by nature or humans?
Abstract Sinkholes seem to swallow the earth and everything sitting on the surface. Some sinkholes are small and have relatively no effect on humans or property. Some sinkholes are very large and will leave ga[ing holes in the landscape. Sometimes these large sinkholes will devour a road and cause harm to the humans who live, work, and travel where the sinkhole is located. For example, a series of sinkholes and a landslide occurred simultaneously in Harbor, Oregon. This sinkhole was a combination of nature and human activity. Many sinkholes are caused by human activity that nature decides to ...

The influence towards the state of economic activity within a region or area is referred to as economic impact. It is affected by the outputs of business proceedings, wealth, wage, and jobs status within that particular region. The net impact is understood as an expanding or contracting economy due to changing activities within the region. The impacts may be measured for organizations as the changes in jobs, income, and sales linked to the company. In a bid to measure the economic impact of an event, an evaluator must evaluate the changes in the total employment, addition values, individual’s ...

DISCUSS THE ROLE OF ION CURRENTS IN DETERMINING THE SHAPE AND DURATION OF CARDIAC ACTION POTENTIAL
Introduction Selective permeability to various ions is an important characteristic of cell membranes, one that determines myriad cellular functions. In animal cells, ion permeability and the electrical potential generated thereof determines the activity of neurons, myocytes and the like. The electrical potential depends on the concentration of the ions inside and outside any given cell, the permeability of the cell membrane to the ions and the ion channels that are present on the surface of the cell. Cardiac cells also possess different ion channels on their surface. These determine the two types of electrical potentials, namely, resting membrane ...

Following The American Psychological Association’s Guidelines
Abstract Most buildings once completed take at least one year to settle and require repairs and maintenance. However, many older multiple dwelling buildings have suffered unforeseen issues. The most common problem is water ingress through the building envelope. The reason why residential buildings are critical and require closer and immediate attention is because these buildings belong to people who have invested their life savings into them for comfort and spend most of their time in those places. Commercial and industrial buildings do not require as much attention and their environmental separation requirements vary because they are only occupied ...
In the semi-arid south-west of the United States of America (U.S.), there exist rare and lush wetlands that form habitat to majority of the US’s desert most spectacular biota. Basic biological concepts confirm that where there is permanency of adequate water at the surface or even a few feet below the ground, numerous diverse water dependent floral communities can develop. In this part of the US, there is the Sonoran Desert Ecosystem. The ecosystem is one of the few rarest and most exquisite habitation in the continental North America since majority of the original riparian habitats has long dried ...

Clinical Case Study
The evidence based clinical literature reveals the difficulties in diagnosing Myocardial Infarction (MI) concomitantly with pre-existing left bundle branch block (LBBB) with the application of 12 lead ECG in the pre-hospital environment (Surawicz and Knilans, 2008). Indeed, the T waves and baseline ST segments incongruently displaced in negative direction in cases of LBBB as evident through the ECG findings. These abnormal variations in ECG findings tend to override the actual ECG results in relation to MI manifestations, thereby challenging the confirmation of MI with the ECG intervention. However, the moving ST segments revealed through the serial ECGs during ischemic ...

It is a fairly common type of cancer and is found equally in women and men. Being one of the most common types of cancer, it is also considered one of the most deadly. It took more than 55 thousand lives in 2012 alone. Scientists think that the rising cause of melanoma is the increase in use of UV rays. This paper will look into what melanoma is and what are ...
Explain the pathophysiology of the impulse origin and the electrical impulse pathway that is associated with the following rhythms:
Normal sinus rhythm In NSR, there is normal conduction of the sinus impulse through the atria and ventricles. The impulse is generated from the sinoatrial node and is delivered through the atria. Once past the atria, the pulse reaches the AV node where it pauses before continuing through the ventricles. From there the impulse is conducted through the ventricles via bundle branches and Purkinje fibers.
Junctional rhythm
During a junctional rhythm, the SA node fails to fire. Cardiac cells all possess the ability of generating a pulse if the SA node were to fail. The rhythm is typically created within or near ...
Introduction
Bipolar disorder alias maniac depression is characterized by mood swings between lows( depression) and highs( mania), or a combination of these two at times. While depression is one of the most common features of this illness, maniac episodes are, usually, marked by a mix of irritability and anger, with or without euphoria. As such, the mood symptoms in the disorder may take four forms:
Mania: A period of persistently irritable mood accompanied by increased sense of self-esteem and optimism.
Depression: A period of unhappiness leading to changes in sleep, appetite, and indifference with the usual groove. Mixed Mania: The stage when mania and depression coexist. Hypomania: The state of persistently elevated mood marked by a ...
