One of the concepts of chapter three that is crystal clear is the application of additional rule on mutually exclusive events. This is because the concept requires one to understand the definition of a mutually exclusive event. Events are mutually exclusive if they cannot occur in the same period. One event must occur first. Thus, the probability of all the events occurring the same time is zero. The understanding above tells me that the application of the additional rule is straightforward.
