Global warming refers to the phenomenon due to which the average global temperature rises by a few degrees over a specified period of time, or as the time passes. The concern that this raises is that if the temperature keeps on rising every few years or so, it is not hard to imagine what would be its effects to the global climate and environment over the next few decades. The rise of a few degrees in a few years is not much of an issue; however, if this rise is consistent, that is where the concern of most of ...

The videos are about the demonstration of a small-scale greenhouse effect. They used carbon dioxide and methane to demonstrate that when these greenhouse gases are in higher concentration, it could increase the atmospheric temperature. In these experiments, the results show that when carbon dioxide and methane are added to the normal air condition, the increase in temperature due to the lamp is higher. This is considered as a laboratory-scale evidence of the greenhouse effect which is occurring in global scale. The results demonstrated in the experiments are new to me. I already knew that greenhouse gases are the main ...

What factors contributed to the problem? Volcanic activity is a major contributing factor to the issue of climate change. The eruption of volcanoes leads to the release of large quantities of water vapor, ash, dust, carbon dioxide, and sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere. In the atmosphere, these sulfur dioxide molecules will react with water vapor leading to the formation of sulfuric acid, which is then spread all over the world through winds. The sulfuric acid formed in the atmosphere can significantly affect the amount of solar radiation entering the Earth’s surface and thereby the ...
Introduction
Every parent envisions a future where their children and grandchildren live in a rich and resourceful environment that essentially provides them with everything that they need to survive. However, what if parents were informed of a pending doom where their children will live in an extremely toxic environment where there aren't enough basic resources such as fresh drinking water or where the climate is comprised of harsh conditions that threaten their lives on a daily basis? What if they were informed that by the time their children are adults, a diverse range of the existing species of animals will ...
Global Warming Phenomenon
The issue of global warming has been a critical problem across the entire world due to the effects associated with this condition. Global warming is caused by the increase in Earth's temperatures due to the effect of greenhouse gases. The greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emitted from burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas to provide energy are responsible for trapping heat and preventing it from escaping from the Earth’s atmosphere. Human activities like cutting down trees and burning forests for farming activities has been attributed to the emission of greenhouse gases that are ...
Despite pessimistic evidence to the contrary, many people believe that our current episode of global warming is part of a continuing cyclical climatic process that has been occurring for thousands of years and is not caused by humans. This optimistic view is based on selective choices of research by the proponents of the “natural process” scenario and is not necessarily based on the collective global research of climate scientists. The results of this optimistic viewpoint could be that governments fail to take positive action to address the problem of climate change, resulting in our planet becoming uninhabitable. In discussing ...
Climate Change
The world is now facing a problem about climate change, which is a main environmental issue that creates many other problems. These problems are affecting the urban areas. This essay will list three of these problems like the rise of sea level, the rise of temperature, and abnormal weather that are caused by change in climate in urban places. This essay will also evaluate the mitigation efficiencies as well as the adaptation when it comes to resolving this problem. Mitigation means different actions that reduces the effects of greenhouse gases. On the other hand, adaptation means reduction of the ...
Introduction
Global warming is defined as “the rise in the average temperature of the Earth’s climate system and its effects” (Gills, 2015). There are various strands of scientific evidence that reveals that the climate system of the earth is indeed warming. Today, the scientific comprehension of global warming is expanding. A substantial amount of research has been done on the matter. However, there is still a debate going on about global warming. One side emphasizes the cause of global warming as human or anthropogenic activities, and that there is a need to mitigate the effects of global warming – that ...

The current drought experienced in California is caused by the greenhouse gases affecting atmospheric pressure. Therefore, the assumption that human being responsible for the drought is accurate. Research indicates that some actions of the human beings are contributing to the development of the effects of the drought; the original causes of the drought can be linked to global warming. However, the mitigation of its effects calls for the assumption of quick and decisive action. The fact that the drought is not caused by the human activity in the state does not absolve the other human activities on the other ...
Climate change is having many impacts, but perhaps the most worrying of these is the rise in sea levels expected through ocean warming and melting of polar sea ice. Climate change is being caused by the increase in atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHG), caused by the burning of fossil fuels, which is impacting upon the Greenhouse Effect. The tiny nation of Kiribati, located in the central Pacific Ocean, is perhaps one of the most vulnerable nations on earth to be affected by climate change. Comprising a land area of only 800 square kilometers, its coral atolls and reef islands are ...
The General Assembly of the United Nations has stated that “Changes to the climate, brought about by increasing levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, will thus lead to changes in the oceans, including sea-level rise and ocean acidification, which will put marine ecosystems and coastal communities at risk. Most of these changes can be attributed to human activities and will negatively affect the animal inhabitants of the marine environment. Some effects of global warming on marine animals include changes in distribution, reduction of habitats and reductions in diversity and sex ratios. In the last hundred years, the rate ...
1.) CLIMATE CHANGE I. Notes on the Situation According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) climate change refers to changes in the Earth’s climate that have occurred over the course of its existence. Change to the climate occur as a result of “very small variations in the Earth’s orbit that change the amount of solar energy” that reach the surface (NASA). A slight change in that energy can, for instance, result in the beginning or end of a period of extreme temperatures such as the ice age. Over the last three hundred years, and especially ...
In my opinion, climate change presents a fundamental problem in our world, and the species, places, and natural resources that are present in our world. The results of climate change are real as ocean levels have risen, and the planet is becoming warmer. Due to global warming, the world is experiencing intense and longer droughts that threaten wildlife, crops and freshwater. The increased global temperature has significantly altered the planet’s climate, and the result is extreme and highly unpredictable weather conditions. Climate change causes intense heat waves that are melting the polar ice caps and rising ocean levels, ...

A dam is a structure specifically constructed to obstruct the flow of moving water, and by extension raising the water level. Dams are built for various purposes, such as a means of flood control, water storage, and a source of hydroelectric power, specifically hydroelectric ones. Some dams are also used in transportation and inland navigation by acting as bridges that connect one side of a body of water to the next. In other words, dams can have many benefits for a developing society. Because of their perceived benefits, many dams have been built all over the world—at least ...
Introduction
The concept of sustainable development was first introduced in 1987 by the United Nations as part of the Report of the World Commission on Environment and Development, in which it was stated that sustainable development implies “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (United Nations General Assembly, 1987). The World Conservation Strategy published in 1980 served as prelude to the conception of this notion, as the UN recognized the importance of minimizing the impact of human activity over the earth’s ecosystems and adopting models inclined towards sustainability ...
Improved scientific understanding in recent years has shown that humans are the major causes of climate change on the planet. A report released by IPCC (the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) in 2014 reports that it is “extremely likely” that the dominant cause of global warming in the 20th Century is the influence of humans. Human activities over the last two hundred years, since the beginning of industrialization, have caused a building up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and as a result, the Greenhouse Effect (a natural phenomenon which regulates the temperature of the earth) has increased ...
In today’s world, climate change is one of the most critical and daunting issues that humanity is faced with. It has emerged, both as a major scientific and a global public policy issue. There is broad consensus among the scientists of the world that accumulated carbon dioxide, which is a greenhouse gas and is released as a result of burning of carbon that is stored in fossil fuels, is causing a rise in the average surface temperatures around the world. Other greenhouse gases such as water vapor, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), nitrous oxide and methane, which are emitted ...

Use of Fossil Fuels for Power Generation and the Need for Renewable Energy
According to Nelson (2011), more than 85% of the world’s energy consumption, which is estimated at 520 exajoules, is generated through the burning of fossil fuels such as petroleum, natural gas and coal (p.19). Electric power generation from non-renewable sources will, unequivocally, result in their exhaustion and creation of a major energy crisis. For this reason, it appears primordial to shift in a greater scale to alternate power generation, such as solar, wind, hydroelectric, etc. Amongst these, Sorensen (2011) explains that though hydroelectric power does represent one of the major forms of power generation, its growth is stagnant ...

Global warming refers to a system of climate changes that are responsible for causing an increase in the average temperature of the lower atmosphere which affects the average thermal gradient of the Earth. Global warming may have a great variation among the causes, but it is most principally associated with human interference, specifically with the release of excessive amounts of greenhouse gases”. The most popular and common definition of the global warming is “Warming caused by human activity.” (Weather Street) There are several gases in the Earth’s atmosphere which are responsible for the increase in the global temperature ...
Global warming is the rise in average global temperatures. The rise in global temperatures is occasioned by the emission of greenhouses gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, methane, and nitrogen oxides. The gases are released from industrial process that combust fossil fuels such as diesel, coal, and petrol. Such processes include generation of electrical energy in thermal power stations, burning of coal in industrial boilers, and combustion of fossil fuels in internal combustion engines. When these greenhouse gases are emitted, they rise to upper levels of the atmosphere and form a layer that blankets the earth. This layer ...

SUMMARY
Global warming is a serious issue that threatens the survival of future generations. Various methods are being devised to reverse the effects of global warming such as the use of green energy. Motor vehicles running on fossil fuels produce greenhouse gases which are a major cause of global warming. Therefore, it’s almost impossible to address the issue of global warming without considering emissions from the transport industry. Electric vehicles are a viable and environmentally friendly alternative to internal combustion engine vehicles that combust fossil fuels. The vehicles are powered by a rechargeable battery that drives an electromagnetic motor. ...

However, others argue that the effects on the environment are primarily natural processes and were not impacted by human behavior. In assessing the current state of research regarding this debate a better understanding of the contribution that various activities have on the climate can be attained. This can help to ...
Problem Identification
The World Wide Fund for Nature is a recent report indicated that deforestation is one of the major impacts of anthropogenic activities ("Environmental Problems in Australia"). It is characterized by cutting down trees and other aspects of vegetation without taking initiatives to plant more trees as replacements. Certain stakeholders have argued that it is quite hard to imagine a scenario or a period when about 90 percent of the earth’s surface was covered by vegetation. This imagination has raised tremendous debates with stakeholders making attempts to inquire the reasons for rapid deforestation rates. However, it is apparent that ...
Question No. 1
Tragedy of the commons, as envisioned by Hardin, is the infinite freedom of the people to use or make use of the finite free resources of the world. The unchecked and wanton use by the people of these free resources results in a tragedy, according to Hardin, because eventually such use will overwhelm the resources themselves. A simple, but graphic example used by the author to illustrate this point is a pasture that is open to all for use. If one or several persons use this pasture to graze their animals this would not pose harm to the pasture, ...

Modern astronomy
There were four main contributors to modern astronomy: Sir Isaac Newton, Johannes Kepler, Galileo Galilei, and Tycho Brahe. Brahe advocated for the new standards for having a more precise observation even though he did not personally believe in the view of heliocentric. All of his contributions were huge for astronomy because he was able to create new instruments along with being able to calibrate them. He would check the accuracy of his instruments on a regular basis so it helped him to revolutionize instruments for astronomy. Kepler was an assistant for Brahe until he died in 1601. This helped ...

A hydrogen car is a car that uses hydrogen as the source of driving power fuel. In such a car, the chemical energy stored in hydrogen is converted to mechanical energy which propels the car. This is done by burning the hydrogen in the internal combustion engine. It can also be done in a fuel cell where hydrogen is reacted with the oxygen to run the electric motor. Hydrogen fuel is not considered as an energy source but rather, an energy carrier since it doesn’t occur naturally. It must be made from other sources which include methane and other fossil ...

I. Introduction Human activities are causing the world to warm and the global average temperature is predicted to increase by 1.8-4.0C (3.2-7.2F) by the end of the century. (Griffin, 2009) These numbers might not seem that large but when you factor in the rate at which they are increasing, it almost becomes obvious that human contributed greenhouse gases are a huge contributing factor. Since the climate will continue to change for natural and humans activity reasons, it critical to understand the adaptations humans need to do as soon as possible. For certain, if oil production and oil consumption ...
