Introduction
The Gilded Age, as it came to be known, was a period between 1870’s and early 1900’s. It spanned three decades of the late nineteenth century and was characterized by one of the most contentious, volatile and dynamic scenes in the American history. The word “Gilded” was lifted from a book by Mark Twain immediately after the civil war.
