It is undoubtedly in hearts of many to say that in duration of its history, the world has barely seen an atrocity more disgusting and frightening than fascism. Fascism, as a movement, as an ideology has done so much evil to this world in the relatively recent years that some of those who had to struggle from it are still alive, and can still recollect whatever horrors they have encountered, and these memories can still make one’s hair rise, and one’s breath stop. However, it would be simply unfair to say that fascism is the worst that ...

Chunking, the technique of grouping similar concepts together in order to aid memory, has long been associated with better working memory performance. The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of chunking on the memorization of words. A total of 18 participants were given a list of 18 words to remember, with nine of these being informed about the technique of chunking before attempting the memory task. The results of an independent samples t-test show that chunking has a significant (p=0.05) effect on the word memorization skills of the participants (t=8.390). This essay is an analysis to Richard Ford’s “Under the Radar”. Ford’s story, despite short, conveys a deep and textured plot and along with perplexing characters. The story revolves around the theme of early marriage, infidelity among professionals and the consequences in the revelation of these actions. There is not a hint of happiness or closure at the end and it leaves the reader free to think up of the ending on their own, with the lingering opinions on mistrust and deception. “Under the Radar” starts off with a young couple, Marjorie Reeves and her husband, Steven ...
Theodore Bundy, known as Ted, was born in 1946 and was a source of shame to his mother, who was not married when she gave birth. This was considered a scandalous affair by her parents, who were deeply religious. In order to keep their family intact Ted Bundy was adopted by his grandparents and raised to believe that his mother was his sister. Later on he moved to Tacoma with his “sister”, Eleanor Colwell, to Tacoma, Washington. There she met and eventually married Johnnie Bundy. Despite being raised in a stable, working-class home, Ted Bundy still started exhibiting several ...
“Hope, Healing, and the struggle” by Braverman is about the struggles of the Pakistani people against the Israeli discriminatory conditions like the wall he talks about in “A wall in Jerusalem”, (Braverman 1). Jesus’ son on the other hand tells about the lives of the addicts in the stories and how they overdose on drugs in presence of their lovers. Interestingly, they live in a life of struggle and loss of direction. Jesus’ son is a tale of the young addicts without hope, and in need of healing while living with the struggles of their lives. Johnson chose the ...

Analysis One of the most evident cultural features in the picture above is the existence of a tie; in sociology, a tie is described as the major content of a particular relation between individuals or groups. In other cases, it is also referred as a binding feature between individuals within a group or a community. In the picture, one can identify several ties between the footballers. That is, they are united by the fact that they are in the same football team; this is evident in the mode of dressing. They have the same football uniform, meaning that they ...

Set in the backdrop of the freedom marches that used to recur in Birmingham, Alabama, against racial segregation, the poem “Ballad of Birmingham” is a simple and direct account of the 1963 bombing at 16th street baptist church that killed 4 young girls and injured many others (history, 2016). Instead of seeking the support of refined poetic words to make this portrayal exquisite, Dudley Randall had opted simplicity over complexity to reach out to as many readers as possible. Using the rhythmic flow of a ballad (generally referred to as Ballad meter) the poet has made the poem worthy ...
Despite the fact that both the United States and Brazil have a history of the institution of slavery, each country documented a different reaction to the emancipation of those in bondage. Racial relations among Brazilians were significantly different in comparison to the documented experiences of African Americans residing in the United States after the abolition of slavery. For instance, while African Americans became subject to discriminatory laws that included Jim Crow Laws and Black Codes, Brazil did not experience the same form of government-imposed racism. In other words, legislations did not institutionalize racism among the people of Brazil; however, ...
Workers in many occupations want a stronger voice in the workplace and there is increasing recognition that this is a fundamental human right. Do you believe that voice in the workplace is a fundamental human right? Why or why not? Having a voice in the workplace is not only fundamental, it is part of the dividing line that separates slave labor from free labor. Payment is not the only form of suppression. By eliminating the voice of the employees, you eliminate the company’s ability to grow. A company is not run solely upon the information and opinions provided ...
In the Aftermath of the September 11 Attacks
The September 11 terrorist attacks of 2001 on the New York Twin Towers of the World Trade Center constituted a traumatic event for Americans of all social classes and ethnic backgrounds. The memories of such violent attacks have been kept alive by the numerous terrorist attacks perpetrated abroad in places like Madrid, Paris and Brussels and in Americans cities such as San Bernardino, California. Unfortunately, all of these attacks have been perpetrated by Muslim extremists. Besides a sense of fear and vulnerability the September 11 attacks aroused a sense of patriotism and a reconsideration of the meaning of being ...
Ai Weiwei and Zhang Xiaogang are Chinese contemporary artists. While both are leading conceptual artists in the country, they seek to evoke different messages using their art work. Ai Weiwei’s art is motivated by the need to inspire freedom and the expansion of individual space away from government and society. It is therefore the case that Ai Weiwei by virtue of eliciting such emotions practiced artistic activism. On the other hand, Zhang Xiaogang is respected in his own right. His art more or less seeks to evoke memories which he says serve as his greatest inspiration. He especially ...
In one of his most influential theological and philosophical works, Blaise Pascal defends Christian religion, referring to its complex nature, human thinking mechanisms and various misunderstandings that surround the issue. In this essay I shall demonstrate that throughout the discourse, Pascal appeals to spiritual agnosticism, when proving his point. This shall be established by analyzing the passage, which says: “We know truth, not only by the reason, but also by the heart, and it is in this last way that we know first principles; and reason, which has no part in it, tries in vain to impugn them” (Pascal ...
Contemporary capitalism can be termed as a concept that mainly lingers on the around Marxism in regards to the ‘periodization’ of capitalism. 1. What is the difference between direct light and reflected light? Give examples of each. Direct light travels from the source to the destination without being interrupted while reflected light is the light produced when the direct light bounces off a material. Probably killed by life's adversities, everybody has at least once dreamed about how it would be nice if Paradise and prosperity reigned on the Earth. Only a few of us thought about the fact than it can be troublesome. Paradise is not a panacea and living in it would be boringWhy? Everything is simple: constant satisfaction and the quiet tends to simply annoy the man so that he wants adventure and adrenaline. There is no good without evil and evil without good. Analysis of the Sophocles’ Oedipus the King
THESIS: In this paper, I am going to analyze the impact of fate and human behavior and actions in the development of action in the tragedy. I assume that, in spite of the fact that in the classical ancient Greek tragedy, everything must obey the will of the gods and the evil rock, in the tragedy of Sophocles' Oedipus the King, it can be observed a big role of free human will, which leads to a tragic end. The human factor influences to the unfolding of the plot of this tragedy and all the vicissitudes of fate are not ...

The history of civilization with all of its setbacks and advances can be termed as a chronicle of leadership outcomes, since the decisions of the leaders of various rank and files all along the journey of civilization caused either prosperity or loss in one or the other spheres of the society. Thus, the awareness regarding the value of leadership and the urge to find or create leaders have already produced a large body of leadership literature. I must say that the assessment test was quite an eye-opener. It required a lot of in-depth soul-searching on my part, taking time to really think about the correct responses, and being as honest as possible regarding my perspectives on the whole exercise. According to my own self-analysis, I rank within the top quartile with a score of 458. I was not at all surprised by these results for I feel I have done quite a lot in improving my leadership and management skills. I have read a lot on the topic and have engaged several people I consider to be effective mentors ...
Google competitive situation
Before Google Inc. gained the market power, Yahoo has dominated the internet marketing, email, and online advertisement. Later, Google Inc. developed a superior operating platform that won the rivalry between it and the incumbent market shareholder, Yahoo. Even though Google market share grew past 90%, by 2009, in most countries in the U.K., the firm knew that competition was not far. To counter such a competitive advantage, it rival Microsoft Inc. opted to acquire Yahoo, but its $44.6billion was unsuccessful (Edelman & Eiesmenn, 2014). The antitrust war blocked Microsoft’s move, but it was in favor of Google. Microsoft’s strategy of ...

Perhaps the biggest mysteries in life are those that exist between the chasm created by the difference in the sexes. Males and females are different. They appear different to each other. At another level, they are not sure about their own identities. I have chosen three essays that look at the issue of identity through different lenses- ‘Between the Sexes, a Great Divide’ by Anna Quindlen (n.d.), ‘Being a Man’ by Paul Theroux (1985) and ‘Looking at Women’ by Scott Russell Sanders (1989). The thesis of my paper is that men and women would always have doubts ...

We always come across the term ‘intertextuality’ even though we may not realize it. It refers to the relationship between different texts, most of which are literary texts. However, Pi, the young boy does not survive alone. He is accompanied by a Bengal ...

However, there are an ever-growing number of people in this country who argue that many of ...

There seems to be a general perception of America and its permanence as a dominant global power will not, or should not, last much longer. One particular view, and the most common of all, is that the United States is declining economically, politically and socially. This is exactly what James Fallows expresses in one article published in 2010 called How America Can Rise Again. Fallows finds amusing that the idea of a declining America has been around ever since the foundation of the country, yet the collapse never seems to happen. His article is full of examples of how intellectuals, politicians, ...

This essay aims at comparing and contrasting the theme of fantasy and wishful thinking as presented in Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman (1949) and also in Tennessee William’s The Glass Menagerie (1945). Both playwrights have intensively used characters who resort into habits of escapism into fantasy and wishful thinking to free themselves from their miserable existence. The main sources of their predicaments are their consistent failures in achieving their dreams, little interaction and communication with family members coupled with personal insecurities. Due to these facts, they all have a common problem which is frustration and boredom. They resort ...

Nosocomial infections are infections that occur within forty-eight hours of being admitted in hospital, three days of discharge or thirty days of a surgery. Most prominent ones are pneumonia, urinary-tract infection, surgical and bloodstream infection. In the previous years, research indicated that at minimum 5% of patients develop nosocomial infections. With the increased use of invasive procedures, current research shows that more than 8% of patients now acquire nosocomial infections. Acquisition of the infection causes the patient to stay in hospital 2.5-times longer than expected and consequently incur extra costs (Ken & Alison, 2013). Metatheatre is a word that was first used by Lionel Abel in 1963; he introduced a new way of and look at post modern-drama, which at the very least adds more language to the to the ones that are usually spoken in theatres. The description of Meta itself constitutes a meaning describing above or after and about or upon. On the other hand, Samuel Beckett, an Irish Dramatist changed the traditional drama as shown in his work in “Waiting for Godot”. The change in his style was due to his dissatisfaction of the earlier dramatist. Beckett’s work featuring the characters Vladimir ...

With the silent pauses of the monosyllables, Frost manages to say a remarkable lot through the compressed cadence of this unusually short poem. The smoothness of a lyric, the simplicity of a rhyme and a delicacy if highest order, the poem “nothing gold can stay” stands out because of the brevity in the message implied. Sired with several connotations and numerous contemplations Frost isn’t concerned with the direct passage of the meaning. It is a minefield of arguments, cryptic derivations and surface level meanings. Heavily end stopped and finalizing in its tone, it has a haunting and a captivating charm that is at once sonorous ...

This paper will aim towards analyzing the struggle of Socrates as he controls his boundless rage compounded by his massive hands or ‘ ...
Article Critique: Dealing with Annoying Co-Workers
