Introduction
U.S. schools are known for low performance on international tests which measure 15-year-old students’ literacy in science, math, and reading. According to the 2007 report, the United States ranked 29th in science among 57 countries participating in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (Gonzalez and Kuenzi, 2012, p. 9; McFarlane, 2013, p. 39).
