Abstract Nicolas de Largillierre is a relatively unknown artist to those who do not study paintings, particularly 1690’s French paintings of women in stylish garb for their time. While most would cast their eyes on his work, like that of “Portrait of a Woman, Perhaps Madame Claude Lambert de Thorigny (Marie Marguerite Bontemps)”, now on display at the Metropolitan Museum, they may not give it a second glance.
