Dreams have always inspired artists to produce real visual images. Paintings in pre-historic walls are evidence that human beings have been representing their dreams since time immemorial. Artists in all generations since man’s civilization have been using dreams as inspiration for their works (Barrett 7). Artists such William Blake, Salvador Dali and Edward Burne-Jones, are among those painters that have used dreams as their inspiration. William Blake Jacob’s ladder (1800) William Blake was an English painter, poet, and printmaker in the Romantic Age. Blake was talented in expressiveness and creativity. It was on a cold January night when the local police were informed of a suspicious activity reported by the neighbors in a locality. An old woman possibly living all by herself had not been seen or heard of since several days, whereas the locals had reported her of being very active and outdoorsy. Yet since two days, she had not been seen outside her home, and when a neighbor visited her, he returned back without an answer even though he waited for several minutes. They tried her number, but she would not answer as well. The police were ...
Assignment 1
The first task of successful learning is setting right targets. In order to accomplish this task, we will provide a 30 days lesson plan due to Scaffold targeting. Scaffolding differs from other learning technics. It is important to provide material gradually. A teacher can use different strategies but the main thing is ‘to relate things’ (Pilcher, 2012). In scaffolding, there are two main objectives to achieve – pupils have to be able to describe and explain the material. Learning here is represented like a ladder and lesson plan is a set of steps pupils take on this ladder (Pilcher, 2012). ...
Abstract
This paper explores the challenges faced by women in management positions in international organizations. In order to appropriately discuss the issue, background information on current related problems in the workplace environment is initially discussed. This establishes the context upon which women find themselves in a corporate world ‘built by men, for men’. Women are in a disadvantaged position since they need to maintain a balance between managing the business and taking care of the family; this is in contrast to their male counterparts who can allocate more time for their career. Within such a scenario, organizational as well as ...
The police, courts, and the correction facilities did an outstanding job in finding out the details of the case. However, there were a few questions raised as to how the case was handled. The Lindbergh baby had been kidnapped. After the child's nurse had notified the parents of the child missing, they reported the issue to the local authorities (Shoenfeld, 1936). The police were informed and had a difficult job determining whether or not this was an inside job or not since the kidnapping occurred at home and nobody noticed anything out of the ordinary. The baby had been ...
The world today is seeing more immigration than ever before, both legal and illegal. While countries forging solid links with one another in the vein of the European Union (hereafter referred to as EU for brevity) has encouraged legal immigration of all kinds, while war and deprivation in various other parts of the world has led to a burgeoning refugee crisis, with more people entering Western countries than can be adequately or carefully handled at any one time. These forms of immigration can be seen as quite different to each other at face value; however, when looked at in ...
Abstract
Over the past years, the criminal justice system has experienced both praises and criticism involving the manner in which various officers enforce law and order. While most officers strive to ensure sanctity and order prevail among all equals, a section of the officers overlook the art of humanity and apply undue force to innocent and suspected individuals. Unfortunately, the blanket of corruption shields the officers from prosecution in the effort to safeguard the exposition of the inner affairs of the police culture. Corruption broils police brutality and individual victimization with unwarranted allegations as a weapon to silence their sufferings. ...
mmmmm dd, yyyy In 2010, the UK’s Communities Secretary John Denham sadly noted that in spite strides against racism in the past decade by the government, the same plight of discrimination against the poor white families (PWF) had gone largely unnoticed and had then reared its ugly head. The segment has remained stagnant and has not keep abreast of the general progress of the population. Denham expressed that assumptions on race have to be taken cautiously lest they will be used to justify PWF’s disadvantages. One such notion is that Asians are naturally more hard-working and ambitious ...

Managing diversity in the business management context
Ethnicity and discrimination based on gender in the labour market have been highly prevalent in recent years with many nations and their governments searching for alternative strategies and developing policies to reduce it. Education has for so long been perceived as the only avenue through which this menace can be addressed, and policymakers have been trying to regulate it in such a way as to offer equal opportunities to all individuals. There has been a marked improvement in registration into institutions of higher learning by young BME people in recent years in the UK. This is mainly fueled by ...

Kaasa, S. (2015). Is Cancer Pain Control Improved by a Simple WHO Pain Analgesic Ladder Approach Combined With Tumor-Directed Treatment?.Journal of Clinical Oncology, JCO647537.
Article summary
This article takes into consideration the role that the WHO analgesic ladder plays in addressing cancer pain in palliative care patients. The authors identify that cancer pain occurs in 90% of cancer patients but only half them are under proper pain management. To this effect, therefore, there is the need for applying opioids under the WHO ladder guidelines as a way of addressing cancer pain in oncology care patients.

The decision to transition from a medical field to corporate America resources is not an easy one considering that the health sector has been hesitant in implementing the principles of corporate America. The resources available for health facilities to facilitate the hiring of a qualified human resources individual are meagre. Consequently, this has led most management teams to opt to overlook the recruiting of HR qualified persons and concentrate on more vital organizational issues. However, organizations are beginning to consider success in the pay-for-performance environment, which has led to the management going for human resource strategies that encourage working ...
Traditionally, people have lived in highly stratified societies based on several factors. These include wealth, race, gender, religion, or other factors that distinguish one person from another.in the USA; the situation has only become worse as the societies have become more stratified. Social stratification leads to the formation of a social hierarchy, which is simply the classification of people in a given society based on their economic power, race, religion, or gender. The factor that has contributed to social hierarchies, especially in the USA is the economic power. The latter has led to the division of the society into ...

Harding Davis paints a vivid picture of inequality that exists in the society. The author uses imagery to make the reader aware of the injustices that occur without their attention. The story feels real due to the author's use of imagery while at the same time invoking a need for reform in the mind of the reader. For instance, Mitchell and Kirby call the mill “a den.” People usually associate a den with entrapping as well as the negative events. Most of the time, people who visit alcohol and drug dens suffer from ill health. There is the likelihood ...
Furstenberg analyzes the seemingly unnoticed socially stratified society in modern day America. Through this article, the author looks at the disparity between those in the lower social-economic ranks which he refers to as the disadvantaged families and those who are at the top of the social ladder, which he refers to as the advantaged families. His analysis is centered on the stages of a child’s development from prenatal stage to childhood and ultimately to early adulthood and the different experiences that children from the two family categories have which ultimately determine their position in the social ladder.

Defendants-Appellees.
Top Four (4) Facts: Fact1: Ocean City Seacrets had put the necessary precautions to guard against customers’ injuries, especially diving, which is relevant to the case in question; the defendant exercised the duty of care. Reason fact is important: First off, it is clear that Ocean City Seacrets hosted many customers or rather invitees, the Mahons included; therefore, it owed them the duty of care. The necessary measures were taken to prevent guests from diving since the water was not suitable for diving. A total of nine ‘NO DIVING’ signs ...
The Pythagorean Theorem can be used to solve numerous real world problems involving right-angled triangles where the lengths of at least two sides are known. One of the areas the theorem can be applied is in construction by painters. Since painters use ladders to reach high walls, the Pythagorean theorem would assist them in determining how tall their ladder should be in order for its base to be safely placed away from the wall such that it is stable and does not tip over. The walls are perpendicular to the ground, and the ladder is a hypotenuse, and this ...
The world faces varied security threats that affect the operations of various sectors of the economy. These threats range from terrorist attacks to cybercrimes. To curb these threats, different countries have created independent units to deal with the threats. In the United States, the department of homeland security (DHS) has the mandate to ensure that America is safe from certain threats. The department has laid down interventions to ensure the achievement of their objectives. However, these interventions when applied singularly are always ineffective. When the interventions are integrated, they assist in the achievement of goals of the department. The ...
Everyone desires to understand the significance of life, to unveil the importance of human beings and reconcile that importance to the surroundings. Many philosophers, alive and dead, from Descartes to Eve Cole, have indulged in the question of the significance of a human life, and the relationships that people form. In real life situations, many leaders; religious, political and academic, push forwards thoughts about life. Professional counselors and psychologists make a lot of money by telling people how they can achieve their full potential. In the literal works; Doll House by Ibsen, The Plague by Albert Camus, Ikiru by ...

In his essay called “Christianity and the Survival of Creation”, Wendell Berry accuses Christian church of the insulting indifference that it expresses towards the whole world. While the church claims to be merciful and forgiving, it chooses to ignore all of the issues that are relevant for the modern society. Things like war, rape and murder the Church explains with the fact that God sends people obstacles that they are able to overcome. Instead of engaging into the fight with crime, the church hides behind the doctrine of acceptance. Berry is also outraged with the fact that Christians tried ...

Globalization has been a primary driving force in today’s post capitalist world. Yet globalization is not at all easy to define (Al-Rodhan, 3). It is not simply a matter of increasing cultural sharing among people from different parts of the country. Rather, globalization is seen to be a “technological, economic, and political innovation that has dramatically reduced barriers to economic, political, and cultural exchange” (Drezner, 53). More than the micro-processes, globalization has fundamental effects to social, political, and economic process (Al-Rodhan, 3). The effects of globalization are manifold. In one hand, critics see globalization as the cause of ...

The article titled ‘Non Profits Can’t Keep Ignoring Talent Development’ is about the increasing turnover, which is a concern experienced by several organizations during the various phases. Rust et al. (1996) suggested that retaining employees is a major challenge for all organization because when organizations fail to make the employees satisfied, motivated and fell like a valuable part of the organization, they hunt for better opportunities where they can grow professionally and build on their skill set. Hiring the right kind of employees is equally important as retaining them. Organizations usually ignore this aspect of employee retention due ...
The choice of one's professional occupation is undoubtedly one of the hardest choices to make: the pressure is extremely high and there is always a danger of choosing something one likes at the age of seventeen and will hate at the age of thirty. There is hardly any complete guideline which can advise how to choose a career the way one will not regret this choice in the future. Young people are influenced by different circumstances in this regard: some follow their passion, some rely on their parents' advice, some succumb to the peer pressure. However, regardless of the ...

This study looks at the glass ceiling by examining three specific research questions. The questions look at the definition of the glass ceiling, its effects as well as how it can be broken. This part of the research contains a comprehensive literature review of some of the sources to be used. The literature review only includes sources from current peer-reviewed journal articles. The literature review reveals the fact that the glass ceiling is still in place in the current workplace and has various effects. The effects stem from factors such as unequal pay for the same job and lack ...
For a long time, women and the minority in the society have not been able to climb the ladder towards top positions in organizations. People consider women as a weaker sex that cannot perform complex tasks associated with top management. Therefore, there has been a barrier hindering women from achieving their goals. Glass ceiling is described as the invisible and unstoppable barrier that denies women and minority in the society from going higher in their achievements (Kulich, 2015). The name originated from women conference in 1979 at a press club. Since then, the term has continued to be used ...
The Suir River Bridge
Introduction Bridges are prone to harsh environmental conditions, increased traffic and loads among other physical mechanisms. Additionally, deferred maintenance contributes, majorly, to the deterioration of these bridges. For these reasons, therefore, it is important that every existing bridge is constantly subjected to assessments to determine its condition. This is important in order to determine and develop the bridge’s rating regarding the load it can hold and subsequently strengthen it to withstand more load to meet the ever increasing demands. An assessment is also fundamental in determining whether the bridge ought to be posted for the sake of public ...

Psychology: Exploring the Relations of Micro Expression to Professional Performance
According to the studies conducted by Albert Mehrabian in 1971, in communication process, around 93% of human communication takes place through non-verbal mode. He divided the communication process into three parts; words (7%), tone of the voice (38%), and body language 55% (Mehrabian, 1981). Among non-verbal modes of communication the commonly used mode is the facial expressions. The face of the person expresses his/her emotions. Yet, some part of emotions is sometimes not clear to everyone. We all are not experts in identifying each and every expression of the ...
Race has played a critical role in determining the current situation of the citizens in the United States. According to California Newsreel (2003), a film focusing on racial matters and the living standards of the US inhabitants before and after the World Wars describes the situation. There was a massive immigration from southern and eastern Europe during the early 20th Century, which brought Hebrews, Greeks, Italians and other ethnics to America. Naturalization Act required one to be ‘white’ to be granted citizenship. After the World War II, some races such as the Jews and other European groups fared better ( ...

The purpose of this literature review is to understand the glass ceiling phenomena, by looking at the various ways in which the glass ceiling phenomena presents itself. This literature review also intends to come up with various strategies which can be used to break through the glass ceiling. The glass ceiling phenomena has not yet been defined clearly by any of the researchers, but most articles agree that the phenomena discriminates women from career development. Means in which the glass ceiling effect manifests itself include ...
“Diving into the Wreck is a poem written by Adrienne Rich and the title says much about its content. The narrator is a person who dives and searcher for a ship which was wrecked and which lies under the ocean surface. It is told from the first-person which makes this experience credible. There is much imagination woven into this poem and the atmosphere is vivid because of the sensory language that is used to depict the exact movements of the diver. The narrator is female and she has gear for scuba diving and other accessories that are necessary for ...

During the 19th and 20th centuries, production grew rapidly and supply far exceeded the consumer demand. As a result, scarcity of goods was replaced by surpluses causing the markets in America to reach a point of saturation. In such a scenario, the business community and the economists opined that the problem of excess production could be effectively countered by boosting public consumption, which in turn would help the economy to grow (Beder 2). With an aim to increasing business profits and maintaining work ethics, businessmen and economists promoted consumerism by enlisting the working class along with the existing consumers ...

Palliative care is associated with two major components. The first component is related to the emotional and psychological care of the patient and family members. The second component is based on the identification of pain and utilizing pain relief interventions based on current evidence. Palliative care is mainly provided by healthcare providers with a support from a team of experts trained and experienced in palliative care (Kwon, 2013. p. 910). The main objective of palliative care is relieve the patient from pain and pain symptoms. Palliative care and effective pain management are the cornerstones for a terminally-ill patient. The ...
Education has done little to improve social mobility. To what extent does this statement provide an accurate reflection of the role of education in contemporary Britain?
Introduction
The impact of education on equal opportunities and social mobility has been an important concern thoroughly explored in the field of sociology. An early British sociologist of education, Olive Banks, systematically tackled the issue of how an educational institution that establish hierarchy in schools in accordance to a hierarchical labour market could bring about 'parity of prestige' or, in simple term, equal opportunity (Irvin, 2008). There are conclusive sociological findings which reveal how ...

Women and men to some extent lead in the same way but to a small extent they differ. It is worth noting that women in the high-level management of an organization lead the same as they male counterparts. The positions they hold at that level dictate how to lead to promote success. As a matter of fact, leadership in the high level of management is subject to various actions and behaviors which impel the leaders whether women or men to comply. Such compliance makes the two gender sides lead the same way. However, there is also a significant difference ...

Wray describes ideoculture as an organization of knowledge, convictions, practices and traditions shared by individuals from an intermingling set of people to which individuals can allude and utilize as the premise of further interactions (369). He also defines “ ...
Influence of Black Greek Sorority: Recruiting and Retaining African American Women Leaders in Higher Education

Introduction
A demographic shift is happening that can potentially be an opportunity for African American females to step into leadership positions in community colleges. In 2007 60 percent of the presidents were 61 or older meaning that they are ready for retirement (Weisman and Vaughn 2007). The ageing of the baby boom generation means that the anticipated level of retirement for community college presidents as a whole was 15 percent for 2015 (Shults, 2001).Forty nine community college presidents retired in 2011 (AACC, 2012). The large turnover due to retirements is an opportunity to fill executive ...

Playing SPENT was a revealing experience. Being a person who enjoys online games, I eagerly started this assignment. Usually I find online gameplay more therapeutic and numbing than thought provoking, however. My experience with this game was indeed different. Opening up the UI of SPENT, you see a great design with bold typeface that sets the narrative in place. The player reads the set-up across the screen and enters into the world it has created. We are faced at first with macroeconomic statements describing the 14 million Americans experiencing unemployment (SPENT). Next, we are told to imagine ourselves in ...
ANALYSIS OF TWO ARTICLES: A LADDER OF CITIZEN PARTICIPATION AND THE NEW MT.EDEN
The article “A Ladder of Citizen Participation” by Sherry R Arnstein (1969) is about the various forms of civil participation in the cities. Arnstein defined eight levels of civil participation that could be observed in the USA in the 1960s. The author argues that very rarely in the USA the people truly participate in the urban processes. Instead there is widespread non-participation and tokenism of participation. Arnstein defines the civil participation as a term for citizen power which enables the citizens that were excluded from decision making processes to be included in the future. If there is civil participation, ...

Essay Question 1: Manny Ramirez is a professional baseball player. He is a great hitter, but is also somewhat quirky and controversial. Because of his quirkiness, the Boston Red Sox decided to trade him to another team, the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Boston print and radio media has been very hard on Ramirez. Two radio talk show hosts, John and Gerry have been repeatedly very critical of Manny, with John states “good riddance” and Gerry states “who needs him” and “he’s a lousy ballplayer” on the air. Manny heard these comments while listening to the radio on the ...
Importance and Impacts of Mentoring
Abstract In the present paper, the impact of mentoring on students and employees has been investigated. It has been hypothesized that mentoring positively impacts their overall well-being if provided considering the specific conditions of mentees. Development Mentoring is an approach to school-based mentoring in which high school students work with junior elementary school mentees. Rhodes (2002) stated that around 50 percent peer-mentoring meetings end within initial three months. However, there is a lack of research conducted on premature meetings termination and mentors' absenteeism. Karcher study, though, makes a significant contribution to the literature does not answer the reasons for ...

ABSTRACT
The research argues that although a gas flaring stoppage is not successfully in-place in Nigeria, fitting the appropriate technology with complementary economic and institutional factors can lead to near-zero or zero gas flaring. Nigeria is a developing country with a unique culture of many tribes and one of the largest growing urban populations in the world. Infrastructural, political and economical challenges to meeting the goal are introduced. Reinjection of gas back into wells is not available as an option to gas flaring because a large region for gas production is wetlands (Buzcu-Guven et al. 2012). Wetlands ...

As identified, the nursing shortage as a problem finds its origin from the workplace environment that does not offer any motivation to the working staff. When the work environment tends to an extra level of strain to the staff, issues of dissatisfaction and work stress tend to be more rampant. The solution lies in developing strategies and policies that facilitate a more satisfactory work environment. Hence, the need to motivate the nurses by reviewing their salaries, equipping them well and the setting up of facilities and infrastructure that can significantly reduce the strain (Dave et al., 2011). At educational level, it ...
