Young adulthood developmental tasks are primarily centered on family, occupation, and social life. The first task is creating an initial adult identity, second is establishing independence, third is assuming responsibility, fourth is broadening social skills, and the final task is nurturing intimacy (Arnett & Turner, 2009). Broadening social skills is necessary for young adults to accomplish nurturing intimacy. This is because as the young adults develop their dependable and appropriate social skills and gain the ability to interact in different social settings.
