Several news reports portray the Chinese as being aggressive and violent individuals thus presenting the perception of the Chinese as being less victimized in the war. The Nanking Massacre took place in Nanking, China on December 13, 1937. It is also known as the Rape of Nanking, a battle during the Second Sino-Japanese War that lasted more than six weeks. In December 1937, the Japanese Imperial Army entered Nanking. Nanking was China’s capital city at that time. The Japanese Army then proceeded to brutally murder 300,000 people, both civilians and soldiers. What followed was six weeks of horrific killing and raping; this became known as the Rape of Nanking. The period signified the distinctly worst massacre during the era of World War II. Neither the European nor the Pacific areas of war had ever witnessed anything so terrible and on such a vast scale.
