The Death Penalty
For the first one hundred and fifty years in the history of the United States of America the federal government played a minor role in the setting up of policies toward the death penalty. Executions were common until the late 1950’s. Michigan was the first state to abolish capital punishment in the late 1840’s and subsequently 13 states took the initiative and called for the abolition of capital punishment.
