Pain tolerance has been defined as the maximum level of pain that a person can undergo. For various reasons, pain tolerance is higher in man than in women, and it is speculated that this is because of the traditional need for display of masculinity by men while women tend to be more expressive of their pain and will thus most likely not withstand the same level physical pain as men.
