The contributions of four sociologists are considered as the basis of the modern day sociology; they are Max Weber, Emile Durkheim, Vilfredo Pareto and George Simmel. This paper is intended for tracing the comparison and contrast of theories proposed by Emile Durkheim and George Simmel. Their theories are one of the bricks of the foundation of Sociology as an independent discipline.
