Ismael Ferroukhi gives us a tale of Reda (Nicolas Cazale) a young man from France who must chauffeur his Muslim Father on a pilgrimage journey. This was just before a few weeks to Reda's college exam. The relationship between Reda and his father is based on the clash of cultures and faith. As they embark on their pilgrimage journey to Mecca, a clear difference between the two in terms of commitment to Islam is seen. Reda portrays pensive sadness in their journey and he has nothing in common with his father. He reluctantly agreed to take the pilgrimage journey ...

The film explores the difference in experiences between a devout Muslim father and his secular son as they embark on a pilgrimage to Mecca. From the outset it is important to note that for a devout Muslim such as Reda’s father and a teenage son who is less concerned about religion. The relationship between the father and the son is tense given the fact that the former is a committed Muslim while the latter is not. Their differences in opinion regarding religion, particularly Islam, cause the son to be reluctant to drive his father from the south of ...
In regards to the father and son and their commitment to Islam is that the father is entirely committed to Islam, but the son is not. This has resulted into them not being too close to each other despite being related as father and son. For example, at the beginning of the movie when his father goes to pray the son does not show any sign of interest or concern. At the beginning of their pilgrimage to Mecca, the father and the son relationship is not good, and it is evident when they start their journey the son barely ...
1. How do you characterize the relationship between the father and his son from the perspective of commitment or-non-commitment to Islam? How does this relationship change during the pilgrimage? Reda and his father have nothing in common because he is liberal while his father is rigid and very committed to Islam. Reda and his father clash a couple of times because of their differences in commitment to Islam. Reda is more of a secular person and shows no commitment to Islam. His father, on the other hand, is very religious and committed to the Islamic way of life. First ...
In the “It Can be a Religion if You Want’: Wing Chun Kung Fu as Secular Religion,” it is clear that the relationship of people with Wing Kung could be said as religious, and the life evolving around Wing Chun was complex. These themes of the spiritual and religious sensitization surrounding the life of Wing are found in the biographical accounts of martial artists. The history can be found in the genres of people like Polly, Powell, and Preston. It was noted that the literature that the martial practices would at sometimes perfect to form a spiritual perfection. ...

Democracy, for all its empowering aspects, isn't still practiced by every nation on this planet. Much like the Soviet Union, which collapsed on itself in the early 90s, there are a number of states in today's world that continue to be totalitarian in nature. For those living in democratic countries, this term might not be familiar and its practices even more so even if a business might want to expand to emerging markets that are controlled by their respective governments very different from the model that the United States among other democratic countries. While the definition of democracy is ...
Abstract
This essay examines the role of ethics in organizations or companies and how ethics can be taught and instituted in such entities. The research identifies that most organizations are set up to attain specific goals. In the case of companies, the main motive for creation is to attain the highest level of profits for shareholders. Ethics seem to reduce the economic returns of a company in the short run. This is in the form of direct costs for monitoring compliance and indirect costs in the form of lost opportunities. However, in the long-run, ethics seem to be beneficial rather ...

It has a population of 38.4 million people and the country is divided into 16 administrative units. The World War II was a grim event for Poland as millions of Polish people perished in this war.
Political makeup
Today Poland has a representative parliament, a president and a prime minister, demonstrating a representative democracy. It is composed of Council of Ministers, where the prime minister leads them. Historically, the migration of Slavs in the early Middle Ages to ...
A Christian marriage is centered on Christ’s teaching unlike other forms of marriages based on legal and secular aspects. The marriage binds two people to live in the image of Christ. Secular marriages are based on vows of legality and other ethical or social attributes acting as norms to the community. Christ does not play a role in their life during and after marriages. In this regard, the Christian marriages do not only define such aspects as the life after marriage but also make recommendations on controversial issues affecting it like divorce. As Cloutier argues, marriage in Christianity ...
History: “Secular” Concept
The association of secular to the worldly notion by Protestant Reformation indicates transformational changes being experienced. The “secular” concept indicating nonreligious activities, if accepted, they are driving people away to worldly needs. The religion is at the center of the experiencing changes in the authority of faith and restoration of the destroyed faith in authority. The major concerns are directed on how layman uses these authorities subject to what ordained priests consider transformation achievement. The approach by the priests to assess the changes experienced by the laymen, it gives an indication of secular concepts and relating it to the ...
There are indeed many things that can be done to solve the problem of Environmental Degradation in Canada. In our lecture, there was a list provided and one included in the list is the removal of leaded fuels and replacing it unleaded gasoline. While I think the unleaded gasoline would indeed do better for people, I think there must be more studies on the possible effects of this change. While there are diverse ways on solving environmental issues, experts and the government should decide which ones are the best. In my opinion, simply replacing leaded gasoline is not a ...
There has, since the writing of the constitution been a platform for the separation of church and state based on the first amendment. The first amendment specifically states that the government will not establish a religion, or prohibit the exercise of any religion. Unfortunately, what this means and how it should be applied has remained unclear. However, the original writer of that Amendment, Jefferson, reportedly stated that he hoped the Amendment could be used to build a “wall between church and state” fully separating one from the other (Hamburger 1). However, there have still been a number of cases ...
Abstract
Although obliged to cover issues in their entirety, with no distortions made in the process, American media tend to misrepresent the reality, as was the case with the depiction of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime implications for the social welfare possibly for political reasons. The noble cause of saving the international image of the USA formerly allied with the late leader in the wake of the Gaddafi demonization could have been the driving force of misrepresentation of the myth related in part to ethical minorities. The knowledge of non-consequentialism and its principles, whether unconsciously or otherwise, allows readers to perceive ...
There are considerable scholars who link relationship adjustment to individual functioning such as personal character and also link virtues to family and church institutions’ functioning and stability. Within this group of scholars, they argue that relationship adjustment is linked to general and marital virtues namely other-centeredness (Cloutier 134). In theorizing the process through which spouses create healthy relationships, scholars must move from the technical concept of functional marriage and look to the successful use of other essential components such as communication skills that largely depend on the virtues and personal character. Virtues are the personal qualities and the character ...

Western culture and Chinese cultures today have various similarities and differences. They developed almost independently of each other due to geographical circumstances and other geopolitical factors. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and review the similarities and differences between Western culture and Chinese culture.

Abstract
Pastoral counseling is gradually becoming a radical provider of mental health services. Clergymen are increasingly pursuing training in both behavioral science and religion. In endeavors to manifest quality clinical practice, they merge theological and psychological disciplines. Pastoral counseling is thus a distinctive psychotherapy, given its ability to include divine and God`s power. The psychotherapy is based on the belief that people desire divine connection. Pastoral counselors mediate healing with God`s loving in order to achieve ideal wholeness. As such, this paper depicts a reflection on pastoral counseling in liaison with previous readings in class. It leverages various ...
Conflicting religious ideologies accounted for the atrocious attack on the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks. That single attack changed foreign policies and relations for the entire globe. However, it was not the first time that religious considerations had triggered violent conflicts that changed world affairs. The crusades also played a crucial role in influencing the political and international relations among different nations. In November 1950 at the Council of Clermont, Pope Urnbanus II called for an armed crusade to unshackle the holy land from Muslim rule. His call would shape or influence world history for many years. The causes ...
Law and Mortalilty
Introduction The question whether law and morality are connected has been subject to various antagonistic philosophical arguments. Further, the line distinguishing the two is blurred, this has led the mushrooming of various schools of thought that seek to demystify the principles that delimit the two abstract concepts. Morality can be said to be a set of norms that a society deems acceptable.
Secular Natural Law
Lone Fuller puts forth arguments in support of secular natural law. By illustrative analogies he depicts a situation where a single legislative authority acts as the primary legislative authority by whose laws the society abides. The natural ...
It is believed that Islam as a religion is designed for the urban community rather than is of a nomadic nature. However, it was shortly changed during nine AD when its religious role was replaced by political incentives when the Muslim world broke its ties with the caliphate in the East. It is also believed that Islam has had an enormous impact on the architecture of the cities it was once dominating (Saoud, 2002, p. 2). This essay is divided into four chapters: 1st part will compare and contrast the medieval European and Islamic cities between 9-13 centuries by ...

This paper evaluates Hassan’s essay concerning suicide bombing with the aim of gaining an understanding of the phenomenon. In his discussion, Hassan offers three main explanations for the motivations behind these attacks. Initially, he argues that suicide bombers rarely suffer from mental disorders. According to the author, it is also inaccurate to refer to suicide bombers; rather they are more motivated by political reasons. Vengeance also drives some attackers. Such individuals or groups believe that injustices are being or were committed against the population they represent. As a result, if need be, they are willing to sacrifice their ...

Even in nonfiction prose, authors find many different ways to tell us about themselves. They may directly describe their personality traits or they may indirectly show these traits through their word choice, their attitudes towards the subject matter and their reported (or admitted) behavior. As such, the personality of the author becomes evident in their works and social interactions. What is commonly referred to as “personality” in a real person is called “persona” in writing. This essay describes the persona of David Foster Wallace’s authorial persona as evidenced in his essays and his social life and interactions with ...

The 21st century is currently covered by postmodern epoch ...

Abstract
While power is a secular affair these days, ethics and moral with their connection to religion seem related to what refers to activities associated with the governance of people and territories. Of course, neither of the two provides a comprehensive view of the complex notion of politics, yet both complement the concept with precious meaning. Thus, moral adds an important dimension revealing domestic politics as a set of activities prioritizing social welfare. Furthermore, the perception of governance through the prism of virtuous leaders, as done by ethics scholars, such as al-Farabi, allows people to perceive politics as a unique ...
Introduction: Overview & Thesis
According to a PBS report in 2011, commenting on Middle East rooted terrorist group attacks, “While these extremely violent religious extremists represent a minority view, their threat is real” (Moore, “Evolution of Islamic Terrorism”). Today, of course, the most commonly popularized terrorist group gaining worldwide headlines in the news are the jihadists known as ISIS. Ever since ISIS has gained center stage internationally, there is hardly a human being who is not aware of the group’s presence on Earth. Currently it has been written that the contemporary world in the Middle East has been socio-politically changed, and the ...

There are many economies that have developed at a significant pace, such as Japan, and many economies that are flagging behind these countries, such as India. Is this development hindered or encouraged by internal and/or external factors? The question remains as to why certain countries are developing faster than others needs to explored, which is what the first half of this essay will do. An analysis will be conducted into how the role of the state, stimuluses for modernisation, social structure and cultural factors play their part in either hindering or encouraging development in these countries. The interference of ...
Tanzimat is the name of modernizing reforms in the Ottoman Sultanate from 1839 to 1876, when the first Ottoman constitution was adopted. The basic principles of the reform were set out in Hatt-i-Sharif, issued by Sultan Abdul-Majid on the 3 of November in 1839 while his accession to the throne. Unlike previous reforms, the main place in the Tanzimat occupied not military but socio-economic issues. The initiative belonged to the group formed by the bureaucracy, headed by Mustafa Reşid Pasha, who became the author of Hatt-i-Sharif. For several years he was ambassador in England and France, and then ...
Martin Luther is one of the most prominent figures in Christian history, the founder of the Protestant Reformation in Germany. Moreover, Luther had a great influence on the formation of the Western state model. It is important to mention that Luther was primarily theologian and his attitude to secular authority was predetermined by the current situation of church and Christianity. Luther argued in his doctrines that man lives in two spheres: the scope of the gospel (religious sphere, attitudes toward the kingdom of heaven) and scope of the law (state sphere, the earthly kingdom). They are both branches of ...
Question One
ISIS can be said to be in a state that is under demented utopia. They show a lot of love and affection to the fellow Muslims, who obey and adhere to their rules and teachings. ISIS takes a different form of terrorism unlike others who indiscriminately attacked varied groups and cause a lot of death and destruction of property; The organization has adopted a new style that is very deceptive, showing affection to those that only support and oblige to their rule and command. Berger and Stern view things differently, though, and by claiming that they are better terrorists ...

In the Jewish State of Israel, politics and prophecy generally work together. Israel was founded when there was a covenant between God and Abraham. In this covenant, God entered into a relationship of mutual obligation with the Israelites instead of him solely imposing his will. This covenant was not only related to religion but was binding in politics and law. God himself is the King, but He exercises his kingship on earth through his chosen proxies. In the case of Israel, there exist three religious institutions which were led by people who had been divinely endorsed namely the Prophet, ...
Compare and contrast the most important points to development that William Easterly, Jeffrey Sachs, and Susan George & Fabrizio Sabelli Give in their books
Introduction
This paper analyzes the vital points to development in the books by William Easterly, Jeffrey Sachs, and Susan George & Fabrizio Sabelli. I will examine the three books one after the other, highlighting the similarities and differences. Importantly, the three books have diverse views about the developmental aid offered by the World Bank and the IMF. However, they all advocate for the establishment of stable, transparent and credible governance in the underdeveloped countries.
In his book, Easterly ...
Morineau and Chaudhury reckon that the early modern period falls “roughly between 1500 and 1800”; apparently, the era was subject to rapid growth and development throughout the European continent (1). Accordingly, the subtle changes that began in Western Europe gained momentum and rapidly spread to the rest of the regions and beyond as settlers migrated with the acquired ideas to other territories. Extensively, though history often overlooks the role of the modern period in forming future civilizations, an analysis of the mentioned times reveals a correlation that only serves as proof of the former influencing the latter. After all, ...

The religion and politics are two mutually exclusive aspects of an individual’s life are not supposed to pragmatically overlap because they control different institutions which are structurally independent of each other. However, the religious groups are generally associated with the politically secular organizations and this bivalence in their association causes the complications of religion interfering with the political regimes. It is also true that most of the ethical considerations are driven by religious faith which cannot demarcate itself from the political realms of diplomacy and opportunism. This research paper aims at exploring various historical incidents and political scenarios ...
In my training and practice in psychology, I have attempted to reconcile my sense of professional ethics with my spirituality. By Christ, we are called upon to be the “salt and light” of the world. However, as healthcare professionals, we are meant to disentangle our personal beliefs from our professional conduct. Entwistle (2015) talks about the major obstacles to integrating our worldview into our counseling. One of these obstacles is the absence of a “holistic theology,” which teaches us that all life is given by, and belongs to, God. I believe that a holistic theology can help alleviate the ...
An important point in the concept of religion for Marx becomes a thought that as the people can overcome religious under the conditions of man's mastery of the forces of nature and overcoming the contradictions between the people in the socio-economic and political spheres of society. So, religion reflects the time of man's dependence on the conditions of the life and definite social relations. The real forces facing people in their lives, and who rule over a man, recognized by the religious consciousness in distorted form and appear as ethereal, supernatural forces. From the standpoint of Marx religion is ...
Buddhism came to the USA due to immigrants from China and Japan and some eccentric Europeans who practiced Theosophy and spiritualism. More than a hundred of years, Buddhism remains very popular with North Americans, and step- by- step this kind of religion is penetrating farther into the people’s lives. Bookshops are full of books about Buddhism, popular magazines and newspapers placed plenty of articles devoted to this issue, film industry includes Buddhists way of life and philosophy in movies. The values of Buddhism can be seen in such social aspects as medicine, education, psychology, nutrition, sport, cosmetology, ecology, ...

During the early centuries of Christianity, an era of official persecution of the Christians, not only was the church and state separated, but also opposed. This essay will describe the connection that prevails between church and state from the ancient times in relation to the present times. In so doing, it will show the various shifts historically and in the current world of the state having influence over religion and religion having the upper hand over the state and the current attempts to bring a separation between the two parties. This sense of antagonism can be well edified with ...
It is well-known that “assisted suicide and euthanasia have long been contentious issues worldwide» (Barbuzzi 16). Euthanasia is defined as the deliberate, intentional and active termination of the patient’s life in cases when death will benefit this patient (Gregory 397); this method is usually applicable for the patients with incurable diseases and in need of relief of the suffering caused by the disease. Moreover, both passive and active euthanasia methods are possible, though both evoke ethical and moral concerns and trigger debates on the subject of euthanasia legalization. Although physician-assisted suicide and active euthanasia have been legally permitted ...
The aesthetics of the Baroque era and it's addiction to motion and scale was reflected not only in architecture, sculpture and painting, but it has mainly become obvious in the music. The world of contrasts, contradictions and passion was expressed by major and minor keys. The meaning of the major key is joy, the slightest nuances from tenderness to exultant. The minor key means sadness in melancholy and tragic desperation.
RENAISSANCE AND BAROQUE
Musical culture in the XVII and the beginning of the XVIII century has been developed in the frame of Baroque style (Claude 3). It has created new art principles ...

Al-Nasir, who was a major in the army, led the Egyptian military revolution in 1952. Many people thought that the revolution resulted from the soldiers’ experiences in the Palestinian War and the disputed Army Officers Club elections (Islamfiche Project75). According to Nasir, the makings of the revolutions began when he was still a student. His philosophy stemmed from the need to liberate Egypt from the hands of the imperialist government. Nasir believed in an independent Egypt where self-governance and democracy thrived. In his opinion, the revolution was the harvest that the Egyptians had cultivated for a long time. Since ...
Buddhism has its origin in South Asia, but it crossed cultural and geographical boundaries to make its presence felt in Western nations. Buddhism marched towards North America in around 1860s with the arrival of Chinese immigrants. The spread of Buddhism in America is also attributed to Americans and Europeans who visited Asia in the late1800s. Undoubtedly, Buddhism has blossomed fast in American culture since then. Nonetheless, the gulf between Buddhist converts and immigrants is one of the prominent features specific to North America. This gulf is riven by deep social, cultural and linguistic variations. It is the point where ...
Some cities were imagined, designed and created wholly or partially in a way that forever provided shape for their histories and identities, governments and religions as well as for the economies of their citizens. An example is the great city of Jerusalem. Whatever they were or however they developed later in time, the details of their foundation, along the momentous and monumental contractions that redesigned or redefined various sectors within them make them case studies in the historical processes that surround cities as well as their regional and continental effects. The paper attempts to identify the evolution of Jerusalem ...
Religion as a subject has been studied extensively by several scholars with an aim to show distinction and origins. Various aspects of religion are not explored leaving only a select few scholars with similar ideas or related concepts to propagate said thought processes. Thomas tweed is such a scholar. He has extensively conducted research in the area of religious space and defined it in a number of ways that will be explored in this thesis. Jerusalem, a popular and oldest city known to man, is a god example that can be used to better shed light into the theories ...

Secular states are based on the need to separate the state from religion. Secular states are neutral and do not support any religion. On the contrary, Islamic countries are based on the need to introduce Islamic law within political systems. Religious laws restrict democracy and respect for freedoms and rights as part of secular states restricted by religious laws. The true political rule should be based on divine laws such as Islamic laws. This discussion is based on case studies of Sayyid Qutb (1906-1966) and Jamal Abd alNasser, Egypt’s Liberation, 1953. In Iran, case studies ...

Rising rates of recidivism in the United States have developed concerns pertaining to the effectiveness of prisons as correctional facilities. In this study, the focus is to assess the suitability of faith-based correctional methods in promoting inmates reentry into the society. Some discussed methods include Inner change programs, prison chaplaincy, and meditational strategies. Several studies have indicated significant declines in recidivism rates among inmates who participated in these initiates. For example, Duwe & Johnson (2013) found that inmates who engaged in Inner change programs in Minnesota were less likely to be arrested by at least 8% compared to their counterparts ...
The purpose of this assignment is to understand the different religions that have been studied throughout Unit 3. Vedic, Spirit Possession, Hindusim as well as Islam and Judaism will be evaluated. Lessons that have surrounded each of these paradigms suggest that there are considerable core concepts that can be defined throughout religion universally. Lesson 10 on Christian Hymnody in Uganda explains an important issue relating to song contests. The way that Catholic Identity and African methods of expression have contributed towards observable comparisons in multiple ways. India is the motherland of not only particular religions, but a unique spirit ...
In any society, several aspects go systematically and keep changing with the current changes in the world. The factors are the political changes, economic development, and cultural growth. From one generation to another it is not possible to have the same trends that were in the previous. One of the main similarities in the Chinese people is the regard for family. There is a significant value that is placed on being related by blood or even distantly (Sun & Wang 72). Despite the fact that the younger generation seems to be more secular, they still believe in family and everything ...
I. INTRODUCTION Each day, a person reveals his worldview simply in the way he speaks, decides, and acts. Philip Graham Ryken observed that “wherever we bump into the world, our worldview comes spilling out”. The conflict between creationists and evolutionists is such a bumping of worldviews. Can the universe be known? According to John Henry Newman, the universe must be knowable if religious truth is “a condition of general knowledge” instead of a portion thereof. Moreover, if a part of reality is phenomenal (called imminent reality), then that reality it can be known because the human mind contains the ...

Prayer does not come close to the success stories from modern medicine, for instance, he explains how you can pray for all kinds of things but medicine advances are what ...
In this article, Brookes contends that the conversion of Emperor Constantine was not a triumph of the purist sainthood kind of Christianity. It however, should not be demonized. It worked for the good of the Church and its mission of human goodness. At the core of Brookes’ argument is that the denigration of the secular or establishment is not going to fulfil the Church’s mission. Constantine is an example of a Christian follower who abides by Christian teachings and mores but is not as fervent in their approach to the Church. Constantine’s Church worked in many ways ...

Cultural diversity plays important roles in people’s identity. This is because cultures influence how people relate as well as how a society interprets its values. It is also through culture that nations are defined, for their identity is mostly founded in their cultures (Ruhl, 26). One country whose identity has had great influence from cultural basis is Canada. This paper looks into different aspects and features which are associated with Canadian culture. This is in consideration of Canada’s multicultural aspects with different traditions and customs derived from different people who form Canadian community. The paper attempts to ...

The existence of secularism in the Islamic society as asserted in the articles was a projection of the Western powers that advanced their interests through sponsored opposition to the rising calls for Islamic unity. The adjudication of the Islamic laws as a sectarian system of governance in which only Allah was to be exalted and no any other God thus remains far-fetched ideology that was aimed at achieving anterior motives. In the view of the authors, the underlying political struggles of the Arab world regarding politics is merely a clash of interest between the nationalists, communists and the foreign ...
