Abstract
Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) are a type of motors that have permanent magnets mounted on the rotors instead of the rotor windings. This particular design gives the motor a few advantages over ordinary induction synchronous motors. The magnets attached to the rotor do not require excitation, which reduces the power consumption in PMSM. This gives the motor high operational efficiency and reduces the motor active diameter. PMSM are therefore associated with applications that require high torque but have limited operation space. The permanent magnets suffer from flux leakage and are therefore aligned in a pattern that minimizes flux ...

Introduction
The reciprocating engine converts pressure into a rotating motion that propels the movements of the parts connected to the shaft. A reciprocating engine would have cylinders, pistons, crankshaft, rods, valves and spark plugs. The up-down motion of the engine transfers the movement or the energy to the propeller through the connected shaft, cam and the rods. This is a basic functioning of a reciprocating engine used in aircraft, and its power is measured in horsepower. One horsepower is equivalent to the power of lifting 33,000 pounds ...

Introduction:
In a typical hydroelectric power generation system, a dam (water reservoir) is built near water body such as a river to create head (height) that enables water to flow at high pressure via a pipe (penstock) to the turbines that drive the power generators. The fast moving water turns the turbine blades at high velocity, and in turn, the turbine turns the electricity generator’s rotor. The wire coils in the generator’s rotor sweep past the stationary coil (stator) in the generator thus producing electricity. This concept was first demonstrated in 1831 by Michael Faraday, who discovered that ...

The advantages of top-down approach to engineering problems A top-down approach is also known as the stepwise design and in most some cases; it is used as a synonym of decomposition. It is essentially the breaking down of a system in order to gain insights into its compositional and elemental sub-systems or sub-groups. In this approach, a brief or detailed overview of the system is formulated and specifying but does not detail any of the first-level sub-systems. Each sub-system is then defined and refined in yet greater detail, and sometimes in many additional sub-system levels, till the entire specification is reduced ...

When objects are accelerated, inertia-forces are generated. This is the case with rotating machine elements. The design of such parts must ensure that they perform their intended work under all the existing combinations of service loads and rotational forces or inertia forces. The rotation of a machine element results in an external vibrating force. The shaking force disturbs the supporting frame of the machine and the adjacent parts. It is also worth to note that the vibration generated by rotating machine elements and consequently the associated noise is also a serious problem to the machine operators. Therefore, it is very important ...

Introduction A hybrid car is a car used to drive the drive wheels more than one source of energy. Modern car manufacturers often resort to sharing of the internal combustion engine and an electric motor, which avoids the mode of the internal combustion engine in low loads, and also to realize the recovery of kinetic energy, increasing the fuel efficiency of the power plant. Another common type of hybrids is vehicles, in which ICE is combined with engines running on compressed air.
It should be distinguished from hybrids vehicles with electro-mechanical transmission, such as locomotives, some tractors and tanks.

At first glance one would think that Philippe Starck’s iconic juicer was a spider-inspired piece of artwork due to the three long legs that supports what seems to be a rocket ship-shaped body. Surprisingly, the designer actually thought of the similar inspiration. The juicer is now considered as an icon of contemporary industrial design; it even earned its place in New York’s Museum of Modern Art. However, the juicer itself according to Starck was intended to be a conversation piece rather than a juicer. In 1989, Alessi originally approached the Italian designer to design a stainless steel tray, but after a trip to a ...
