Mongolia is located to the north of China and is said to host 10% of the world’s known coal reserves which is estimated to be equivalent to 162 billion tons. Coal export accounts for the largest chunk of total Mongolian gross domestic product (GDP) at roughly 22%. This is equal to approximately 80% of the county’s exports (Voroshilov 34).
