The problem of HIV and AIDS has become a global one in the short time since the identification of the virus. Although there is no vaccine to protect against the virus, knowledge and education are two powerful shields against infection—and it has become clear in recent years that impoverished women in the developing world are particularly heavily impacted by HIV transmission and development of AIDS (UNAIDS, 2016).
