Introduction
Deinstitutionalization of the mentally ill involves the replacement of isolated psychiatric hospitals where patients stay for a long time before they are integrated back to the community. Deinstitutionalization has two most important aspects: reduction of the number of individuals in mental institutions by releasing them and reduction of both admission and re-admission rates in such facilities.
