What Is Food Security?
Various organizations define food insecurity differently while explaining the same phenomenon. According to The World Food Summit held in October 1996, “Food security exist when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy lifestyle” (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, 2001, p. 4).
