My Leadership Style Essay

There are various leadership styles that are adopted by the leaders depending upon the type of work and nature of business. Among the different leadership style, one is coaching in which the leaders are required to improve the performance and improve the existing capabilities of workers. The leader as coach helps their subordinate to increase their skills, building strong bench mark and providing them lots of guidance throughout the task or activities. This type of leadership style is most successful when the subordinates are more agreeable, experienced and responsible. Moreover, the coaching style of leadership helps to create positive and friendly workplace environment where the subordinates are aware of the outcome that is expected of them. Thus the objective behind adopting coaching style of leadership is to recognize the intrinsic potential of followers, increase collaboration, provide appropriate guidance, assist others to focus on core business objective and building trust, empathy and self-esteem.
My leadership style as reflected by my previous job is coaching. Previously, I was working as a supervisor at a local garments factory where I was responsible to manage work activities of my subordinates. As a supervisor I was accountable to my department manager about the daily schedules that was completed by the workers at the end of the day. When I was hired, I found that although the workers were experienced and have technical skills to operate the machines, but they were unable to meet their daily targets. However, I recognized the flaws in the workers very early and decided to guide them so that work output could be increased. I was already aware of process of operating machinery therefore I acted as a coach to my subordinates. I made them learned how to prepares their daily schedule by prioritizing the work according to its importance. I frequently paid visits to them to take follow-ups on the work and its outcome. As a leader by coach, I tried and was succeeded in maintaining a friendly work atmosphere where besides me; other workers also helped and guided each other to complete the activities in a chain. I coached my fellows starting from daily basis to weekly basis where they have achieved the desired level of outcome and met daily targets. In addition to work activities, I had also built confidence in them that was one of their weaknesses to achieve their targets. By guiding my fellows in work activities, I was emotionally attached with them that I figured out their intrinsic factors that was affecting their capabilities and succeeded in overcoming most of the factors. Strong relationship of trust was created among me and my fellows that had removed the ego to help and guide others. My fellows worked with collaboration under my guidance that has enabled the organization to achieve its desired outcome, where in return the workers were awarded with increased pay. I and my fellows together celebrated the success. Thus, I proved to be successful leader by adapting to the coaching style of leadership.
In a nutshell it could be said that the leaders that adapt coaching style guides and directs, provide inspiration and encouragement that helps to motivate the subordinates. In most of the cases and in my case too, the coaching style of leadership has proved to be successful.
