The Iron Wall: Summary Essay

It is a documentary filmed by Mohammad Alatar, a Palestinian born in Jordan and lives in America. The iron wall was produced in correlation of Palestinian Agriculture Relief Committee and Palestinians for Peace and Democracy. The title is taken from a strategy of the early Zionist proposed ideologue, for dealing with the native Palestinians. It directs towards the settlement-colonies propagated by the Israel in the West Bank and points them as a key challenge to the peace. Israel is being colonizing on Palestinian land against their desires, from last 50 years, and the purpose is only to capture the land. It shows that there are 600 checkpoints in the territory, out of which only 24 is reason of distinction between Palestinians and Israel. All others isolate Palestinians from Palestinians.
The film shows 200 colonies situated in the East Jerusalem and West Bank. It also shows all the bypass roads, checkpoints and the army zones which divides the land into several pieces. A settler named Michal Barakat was interviewed in the documentary, and he revealed that most of the Israeli people living in those colonies are not aware about their presence on Palestinian land. Palestinian’s fight back nonviolently, and argue with soldiers, trying to save their olive trees. It also covers the apartheid wall built by Israel in West Bank, and its purpose to portray colonies as a permanent fact on the ground.
In short, The Iron Wall was a low budget documentary film with poorly animated maps, outdated graphics, and style. However, the facts revealed to the public were a valuable addition to the body, and it uncovers the reality hidden behind strategies of Israeli invaders, who took the advantage of Palestinian weakness, fracturing their integrity under the title of “peace.”
